Title:                  Hydro Electrical Technician
Position Type:   Direct Hire
Location:           Dexter, NY
Reports to:        Site Manager
Status:              Non-Exempt

Job Summary:
The Hydro Electrical Technician will work in a power plant installing, testing, and troubleshooting medium voltage (13.8kV and below) and station service electrical equipment such as motors, and motor controls, switchgear, transformers, voltage regulators, electrical protective devices, main and auxiliary generators, lighting power supplies, electrical cranes, and battery support systems. This position will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and managing overhauls for such equipment. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•    Installs, tests, maintains, troubleshoots, and overhauls medium voltage power plant generation and auxiliary electrical equipment.
•    Gains technical information from electrical schematics, vendors information, and codes.
•    Performs current, voltage and power calculations as necessary.
•    Working with the Power Plant I&C equipment to calibrate plant related instrumentation and use test equipment associated with the power plant.
•    Initiate reports and records associated with the electrical systems of the plant.
•    Coordinates Submersible Pump Push/Pulls.
•    Documents all work, and reports as necessary.
•    Supports regional operations and maintenance activities as needed.
•    Coordinate with plant staff in the coordination of all maintenance activities.
•    Interface with purchasing team in support of any procurement actions as required to support the region.
•    Evaluate equipment failures and for methods of procedures to prevent reoccurrence.
•    Provide support in the budgeting process.

Job Requirements:
•    Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
•    Strong attention to detail.
•    Ability to use electrical test equipment such as, DMM, meggers and multi process calibration equipment.
•    Strong knowledge in electrical theory and troubleshooting techniques.
•    Operational power plant experience is a plus.
•    Willingness to work overtime when required.
•    Working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft office suite.
•    Excellent communications, interpersonal, and organizational skills required.
•    Valid New York State driver license
•    Protection relay experience preferred. 
•    Controls and PLC experience preferred. 
•    Able to read blueprints is preferred. 

Physical Requirements:
•    Working in varied outdoor environments such as all-weather conditions, all noise levels, hazardous conditions, and on the full range of outdoor work surfaces. 
•    The frequent use of protective equipment (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.) may be required. Work with hazardous materials may also be required. 
•    Working in proximity to high voltages and current with proper training and equipment, operating heavy equipment and rolling stock and entering confined spaces or hazardous environments may be required while often being exposed to equipment and machinery noises. 
•    Duties require walking, standing for extended periods of time, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders and stairs, operation of large valves and other tasks requiring up to 100 lbs. of pulling or turning force, and lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. Exposure to extreme heat and cold. 
•    Eye and hand coordination are required to operate switches, pushbuttons, and other controls. 
•    Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus. 

Education / Experience:
•    Associates degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a certification as a master electrician/journey man.
•    5+ years of on the job experience. 
•    Electrical Safety Certifications required. 
•    NETA training or certification preferred.

Within this range, employee pay will be determined by a combination of factors such as knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, education, and overall performance. As this job posting is available in multiple locations, the expected pay scale may vary depending on the specific geographic area.
 
Compensation Range per hour: $28 - $30
