Overview:

-Perform analysis, design, or test of one or more complex materials, structural components or functional systems of company products which require use of ingenuity and creativity.

-Based on broadly defined problems study basic design concepts and criteria for assigned highly complex materials, components, or functional systems to ascertain the engineering principles involved and to adopt features from previously successful designs of a similar nature.

-Without detailed direction, plan, prepare, and complete the design of assigned complex components and functional systems.

-Study the operation of systems, select major components to meet functional and operational requirements, and determine the optimum location and arrangement from an engineering, manufacturing, and service standpoint.


Responsibilities:

-Successful candidates for this position will work in a technical role for the National Security Systems (NSS) group. This position offers the opportunities to work on exciting cutting-edge research-and-development projects and/or flight program production program in support of various NSS business focus areas and mission objectives.

Duties include contributing to the general systems engineering activities.

-This may include requirements flowdown, tracking, verification, and the writing complex specifications, interface control documents, and engineering reports from advanced studies, special engineering investigations, and similar activities.

-The candidate must be knowledgeable in aerospace systems and spacecraft subsystems design and operations.. Advanced analyses relating to mission and technical problems may be required.

-Position may also include responsibilities relating to integration, testing, and operational readiness of payloads and flight systems.

-The role will include interfacing with external customer technical representatives as well as internal engineering associates and program management.

-Candidate may be called on to assist in new business activities such as conceptual design and analysis for proposals and funded studies and may include authoring sections for both.
-Desired experience includes Requirements Management Tools such as DOORS, Cradle, or CORE, and various analysis engineering tools such as MATLAB, MATHCAD, and STK.

-Actual spacecraft operations and related ground systems expertise is always a plus.

-Additional experience in any of the following areas is also desired: orbital mechanics, power systems modeling, avionics or digital electronics design, telecommunications design, risk analysis, thermal engineering, or integration and testing (either at the spacecraft or payload level).

-As a principal engineer, the position is expected to be mostly self-directed using previous experience to recognize and mitigate technical issues as they occur.


Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and seven years of related experience in Aerospace Engineering or related field.
-Technical knowledge and/or hands-on experience in systems engineering and integration of space systems. Minimum 7 years experience in aerospace systems design, development, manufacture, test or operations.

- Experience with system engineering requirement tools (Cradle, CORE or DOORS) and processes
- Experience in requirements development and management processes
- Experience in development and maintenance of interface control documents and related processes
- Experience in space system testing and evaluation (flight and ground testing)
- Experience with various technical analysis tools such as MATLAB and STK
- Experience in any of the following areas is also desired: orbital mechanics, spacecraft attitude control, power systems and modeling, avionics or digital electronics design, risk analysis, optics, communications, rocket propulsion, thermal engineering, or spacecraft integration and testing
- Experience and/or training in Earned Value Management Systems
