Marine Electrician

Pay: $17.34-$27.31/Hour
Per-Diem: $120.00/Day
Location: Newport News, VA

Job Description:
Deck electricians are largely responsible for the installation, repair, overhaul, and operational testing of the electrical systems aboard the ship. Electricians can be working on one of the many electrical systems aboard the ship including lighting, power distribution, communication, or navigation. Electricians read and interpret complex electrical and electronic schematics. The job of an electrician is unique in that it requires an individual that can quickly switch between differing tasks ranging from lighting and receptacle hook-ups, installing wire way racks, rebuilding equipment, installing electronic controls, lighting maintenance, performing preventative maintenance, or welding of studs for mounting equipment.

Experience:
The Deck Electrician must have three (3) or more years of experience in the electrical field – Industrial, Marine or Commercial Nuclear applications.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
Must be able to read and interpret shipboard electrical installation drawings, wiring tables, schematics, and work packages.
Proficient in the use of basic electrical meters and test instruments (volt-ohm meter, clamp-on ammeter, insulation resistance testers (mergers, etc.).
General deck electrician work. (i.e. layoff and mount electrical equipment and wireways; install cable penetrations in equipment , bulkheads, and decks; cable installation; cable terminations; and cut-in and hook-up)
Proficient in the use of basic electrician hand tools (i.e. Pliers, wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, connector crimping tools, etc.)
**Must be a US Citizen.
**Prior to employment, all new hire candidates must pass a background check and hair follicle drug test.
