We're outgrowing the simple search tool we currently have on the site and we're rolling out a more comprehensive search engine for your use. You can find it on the Roadtecchs.com home page (http://www.roadtechs.com/) or go directly to the search page at http://www.roadtechs.com/search/.

The new tool allows you to use detailed search queries to filter out unrelated job posts and zero-in on the posts you're interested in.

Feel free to take it for a test drive, you are welcome to provide feedback here in the forum. Just add a reply to this post with your comments. Please let us know if you see areas in the tool that need improvement (search terms too general, too many hits returned, wrong information returned, etc.).

Regards,

Jim

PostPosted: Mon Dec 18, 2006 9:11 am    Post subject: Additional information on how to use freeform search Reply with quote

If you search for planner scheduler in freeform search, you'll get about 7 hits. If you search for planner and scheduler, you'll get about 39 hits. This reason for the difference is that the search will look for the exact search words you enter, unless you use search modifier words (and, or, not). Using planner and scheduler tells the search to look for any occurrence of the word planner in a post and any occurrence of the word scheduler in the same post. However, the words do not have to be together, just in the same post.

If you search for planner or scheduler, you'll get about 220 hits. This is because the search will find any post with either of the words planner or scheduler. The post would only have to contain one of the words to be returned.

Using planner not scheduler will yield 57 hits. This searches for all job posts containing the word planner but the post cannot contain the word scheduler.

planner scheduler - 7 hits
planner and scheduler - 39 hits
planner or scheduler - 220 hits
planner not scheduler - 57 hits

Hope this helps,

Jim

The following shorthand can be used in freeform searches:

, (comma) or / (forward slash) are shorthand for or.
+ (plus) is shorthand for and.
- (minus) is shorthand for not.

So, the search: engineer, technician - mechanical

would yield: engineer or technician not mechanical

GREAT feature...wonderful idea..... I run a small website myself and use it... You guys have ALLWAYS been the industry leader and the ones to come to... Enjoy very much.... I also have ran into a little feature from Conduit.com that allows me to modify my browser with my website.... Maybe Roadtechs could have that in the future... it has various add ons as well... online radio, ect

Just a thought!
