Your Day-to-Day: The Maintenance Technician installs, troubleshoots, and repairs mechanical equipment, piping, valves, and machinery of a combined cycle power plant. This equipment includes but is not limited to the gas and steam turbines, generators, heat recovery steam generator, air compressors, water treatment equipment, demineralizers, motors, pumps, and other auxiliary equipment. Strictly adheres to all safety and environmental rules and regulations.

Primary Duties
• Adept at troubleshooting and diagnosing problems with mechanical equipment and possesses the ability to apply a resolution in a timely manner
• Proficient at repairing, replacing, dismantling and inspecting defective plant equipment such as pumps, valves, fans, gearboxes, demineralizers, compressors and turbine components
• Perform piping and conduit installation in the plant for system upgrades and modifications
• Capable of setting up and operating a drill press, milling machine, pipe threading machine, grinder and other various tools to make and repair parts and equipment
• Capable of operating welding and cutting equipment and able to complete piping and metal fabrication projects
• Competently operates and maintains combined cycle power generating facility equipment with minimal guidance or assistance as directed by and in coordination with plant management
• Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, valves, and gauges. Cleaning, replacing, oiling and lubricating other component parts and equipment as required.
• Reads meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels, water chemistry to verify operating conditions
• Participate in the plant's preventive maintenance program by performing routine maintenance duties, including use of the CMMS and the collection of trending information for the Operations or Maintenance Manager
• Assist in maintaining and controlling spare parts inventory to maintain plant reliability. Assist in physical inventories.
• Complete other tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Manager or the Plant Manager

Working Relationships
The Maintenance Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager and responds to direction from the Operations Manager and/or Plant Manager in the absence of the Maintenance Manager. The Maintenance Technician works in cooperation with the operations personnel on matters pertaining to the daily operation of the plant.

Who You Are:Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalency; technical college degree or vocational training in a mechanical discipline desired
• Experience as a power plant mechanic, millwright, or equivalent
• Ability to read and understand engineering prints, mechanical P&IDs and use electrical schematics as required to complete assignments
• Proficiency in completely overhauling valves, pumps, compressors and other common balance-of-plant equipment as needed is essential

Specific Skills and Knowledge
• Ability to use basic hand tools, portable electric and pneumatic tools, and basic rigging equipment such as winches, hoists and slings. Ability to locate, troubleshoot, and adjust defects in mechanical equipment and/or maintain.
• Must be able to fabricate steel systems following design drawings using welding, cutting, and other techniques.
• Qualified for power piping fitting and welding is desired
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
• Must be able to work well with others and be self-directed, as well as apply creative solutions to unique problems
• Valid driver's license required

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Physical requirements include standing on feet for extended periods of time, requiring stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection and others must be worn in the performance of some duties. Work with hazardous materials may be required.
This position requires extended working hours and varied shifts including weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. "On Call" status may periodically be required.

Fit for Duty
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
