Department Title: Meter Reading and Field Services
I. Position Purpose:
The Project Manager/Trainer will be accountable all phases of project execution from planning through ongoing operations. In addition Project Manager/trainer will be a corporate subject matter expert on Gas Operations. Project work will range from:
 Managing meter reading staff,
 Deploying AMI/AMR devices
 Infrastructure and meter exchange programs
 Managing outsourced metering operations
The project manager will be responsible for managing multiple efforts simultaneously. The Project Manager is a key on-site presence, representing our interests and serving as customer advocate and is accountable for operational performance.
Initial deliverables will be:
 (60% of Time) Manage and grow existing outsourced meter reading contract. This includes:
Meeting with Client to determine staffing needs
Orientation for New Hires including meter reading training
Performance management of workforce
Manage local Fleet Maintenance/Fuel Management
Safety Prevention program Management and Post issue Investigations
Engage client for prospected work
 (30% of Time) Develop and implement gas exchange training program for other customer projects. This will include:
Operator qualification program
Gas meter installation and exchange
Appliance relight and gas leak inspection processes
Corrosion inspection
Customer Specific policy and procedures
 (10% of Time) Assist in Gas Meter installation and retrofit presales and project startup activities. This will include:
Participating in RFI and RFP responses
Support sales meetings as a subject matter expert
Assist in starting new gas projects as a trainer
II. Essential Functions:
 Accountable for successfully managing operation projects as well as support startup and training activities requiring gas metering and distribution expertise.
 Oversee project execution, including but not limited to:
o Plan and Start projects and conduct periodic Project Review meetings.
o Frequently communicate project status.
o Resolve and document project issues, problems, and changes.
o Perform the duty of a customer advocate.
o Manage customer expectations.
o Seek opportunities to solve customers problems while growing our revenue
o Motivate and direct workforce
o Gas Operations Subject Matter Expert
 Provide leadership by coordinating all facets of the project(s) and ensuring all team members are working toward consistent goals and milestones.
 Elevate unresolved issues to proper level of Management to assure customer support and satisfaction.
 Work with internal groups in gathering or providing information necessary to promptly respond to customer issues and inquires.
 Spend hands-on time in the field to gain customers confidence which add value to the overall productivity of the project(s). Understand the project and the process.
 Manage to the Scope of Work and implement change orders as required.
III. Knowledge/Experience Required:
 Experience in training:
New employee orientation
How to read gas meters
Basic customer service skills
Gas Meter disconnects and reconnect processes including appliance relight
Worksite safety
 5 years minimum experience working for a gas utility in meter operations
 3 years minimum experience as a meter operations supervisor
 Pass DOT Certified drug testing program
 Valid drivers license
IV. Personal Attributes
 Strong leadership skills.
 Skills for data entry. (Microsoft software)
 Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
 Highly self-motivated, self-directed, and attentive to detail.
 Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
 Capable of working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
 Good understanding of operations and gas metering equipment. Particularly gas leak response and investigation, setting and removing gas meters, and other basic customer service needs.
 Read and comprehend maintenance manuals and technical instructions.
 Familiar with all company policies and procedures including the company safety manual.
V. Physical Requirements:
 Requires strength and endurance for arduous labor and heavy lifting.
 Confined spaces, height, moving mechanical parts.
 Stooping, crawling, reaching, twisting/standing.
 Normal functioning senses, good eyesight, color vision, field and depth perception.
