Title: Instrumentation Lead 

Position Type: Contract

Location: Alma, WI

Reports to: Maintenance Manager

Status: Non-Exempt

Job Summary:  

PIC Group has an excellent opportunity for an Instrumentation Lead who will be responsible for the daily activities associated with the Plant Maintenance Department instrument group for a Wisconsin Power station. The Instrumentation Lead must coach personnel on technical and safety requirements and assist in implementing a safety program within the department that complies with all established safe work practices. The Instrumentation Lead performs highly skilled work related to the inspection, testing, adjustment, repair, removal, and installation of electronic and electrical power plant equipment and systems. The Instrumentation Lead reports to and supports the Maintenance Manager and will also assist and provide recommendations in the preparation of budgets. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Safely work on equipment with steam pressures of 6000 PSI and 1000F
•    Trouble shoot, repair, and maintain: Station HVAC and control; Tune station and auxiliary combustion control systems.
•    Air pollution emission monitoring equipment and complete all required reports and maintain all required files, plant data acquisition system.
•    Assist in writing and updating department job and operating procedures. Ensure all department personnel are qualified to perform these functions.
•    Provide feedback to the department manager on department activities, training requirements, employee problems and other issues of concern.
•    Address employee work related problems and concerns utilizing leadership skills.
•    Assist in the preparation of the department budget and annual work plan.
•    Ensure all involved departments are kept informed on issues of their concerns.
•    Comply with all state and federal reporting and permit requirements.
•    Support and enhance, where possible, the plant preventative/predictive maintenance effort with ideas and suggestions for improved maintenance practice or operating procedure.
•    Recommend improvements or modifications that will enhance plant efficiency, reliability, or safety.
•    Ensure all department maintenance manuals, operating manuals, equipment files, diagrams and blueprints are maintained and updated.
•    Safely work on energized equipment when necessary.
•    Responsible for protecting the site property.
•    Schedule all daily and weekly department activities interacting where necessary with other departments on issues such as safety, equipment lockout/tagout, planning, etc.
•    Ensure a work order is initiated for all work performed and that all work orders are properly completed when the job is finished.
•    Utilize maintenance management techniques to enhance department performance and work toward continuous quality improvement.
•    Perform all other duties historically performed by this classification and all other duties assigned.

Job Requirements:

•    Must be knowledgeable and able to perform duties of technicians and trainees. 
•    Must become knowledgeable in the budget process, station cost center breakdown, accounting system, and the account numbers.
•    Leadership, personnel, accounting, safety, and materials management training to be completed at the first opportunity after promotion date. 
•    Computer literacy or willingness to be trained.
•    Valid driver’s license
•    Off-duty availability, emergency call-in.
•    Frequently interact with contractors, salespeople, and co-workers. Limited supervision. Team-oriented and independent worker, having routine and variable tasks. Variably paced.
•    Operate overhead crane, hijacker, stack elevator, pickup, end loader, and telephone.

Physical Requirements:

•    Sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, lift (up to 50 lbs.), push/pull, crawl, twist upper body, climb hand-over-hand, bend, and reach/stretch. 
•    Manipulate test equipment, maintenance tools and equipment, ladders, cable, and wire.
•    Ability to be respirator certified.
•    Works indoors and outdoors, occasionally in extreme cold, heat, temperature swings, and frequently in extreme noise. 
•    Frequently works around mechanical, electrical hazards, and occasionally works around fume/odor, dust, chemical, and toxic waste hazards, and exposure to ionization radiation. 
•    Frequently work at heights. 

Education / Experience:

•    5+ years experience as Instrument Technician – Journeyman or Lead Instrument Technician required
