Job Description:
This position is responsible for providing strategic programmatic direction in regards to design standards, as well as providing technical expertise, leadership and guidance to the engineering unit in Florida, with an emphasis on power system protection and control standards. This position is responsible for developing design standards that take into account reliability, maintenance, cost, industry standards, and regulatory requirements, and is responsible for leading topic discussions with other departments including Generation and Distribution, in developing the standards. This position is responsible for driving consistency within the organization and is responsible for ensuring adherence to approved design standards. This position is responsible for leading topic discussions pertinent to both organizations and where consensus cannot be met, provides the final recommended/directional approach. This position is responsible for producing the governance documents which state the Department’s stance on a topic as well as design basis information, giving the Engineering groups guidance on the necessary details they need to complete their task as well as providing basis for consistent approaches to system design. Implementation of the standards requires developing and implementing change management plans, and acting as project manager for the changes required to implement the new or revised standard. Since this position has such a critical role in establishing technical direction and philosophy, the lead engineer MUST possess high technical competence with the majority of their work experience in the electric utility industry. MUST also have Transmission Line experience. This person will be creating Design Standards. Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to forge consensus in a diverse group, and the capacity to represent the organization in various forums are some other important skills required for success in this position.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering (not engineering technology program) from an ABET accredited program or a current PE license is required. An international engineering degree will be considered. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. engineering degree. 10+ years of engineering experience is required. This position has the potential to convert to perm.
