This position will provide support to the Mobile Launcher 2 (ML2) project located near Kennedy Space Center, FL. ML2 is a launch platform that will support launches for NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS), the next generation rockets that will be the largest ever built. SLS will provide foundation for missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond
The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.
Originate and check complex structural engineering deliverables, such as steel design calculations, specifications, and material requisitions
Reviews and coordinates technical documents with/from other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction
Prepare technical reports related to specific design issues
Manage specifically assigned project activities
Interface with Construction on constructability of steel designs and methods to reduce cost/schedule
Support construction by dispositioning field change requests and nonconformance reports
Lead and/or participate in technical discussions with client, suppliers, construction, etc.
•BS in structural/civil engineering from an accredited university or college, and a minimum 6 years’ progressive related experience
•BS/MS should emphasize structural analysis and design of steel structures
•Have a U.S. Professional Engineering (PE) license
•Work experience for BS/MS should be directly related to the detailed design of steel structures
•Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally
•Ability to independently execute the detailed design of complex structures
•Experience with Microsoft suite of tools
•Understands work processes of other disciplines and departments on project
•Proficient in the use of structural analysis software GTSTRUDL. Expertise in ANSYS is highly desirable
•Proficient in the use of MathCad
•Thorough knowledge and application of the AISC Construction Manual (15th Ed.), ASCE 7 V16 (June 2017), and IBC codes (ICC IBC-2018)
•Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client in a collaborative manner
•Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check
•Knowledgeable in the principles of Systems Engineering
•Experience with CADD applications, such as AutoCad
•Necessary skills to present technical subjects with competence and confidence
•Experience with methods of construction for steel structures
•Experience in developing Material Requisitions and working with Procurement organization
