PMQS – Project Quality Management Quality Services is hiring experienced Sheet Metal Workers for a 2-year opportunity at the Newport News Shipyard in Virginia.

Pay Rate: $32/hour
Per Diem: $120/day for qualified non-local candidates
Location: Newport News, VA
Contract: 2 Years
U.S. Citizenship: REQUIRED
Background Check & Hair Follicle Drug Test: Required

Position Description

The Sheet Metal Department is a highly versatile team of craftsmen responsible for fabricating, assembling, and installing a wide variety of components on Aircraft Carriers, Submarines, and other Surface Ships.

Work may include:

• Ventilation systems
• Metal joiner bulkheads and framing
• Furniture, cabinetry, and lockers
• Ladders and handrails
• Foundations
• Weapons spaces and wet spaces
• Sheet metal fabrication

Sheet Metal Workers will perform work according to detailed technical work documents and procedural guidelines.

Required Experience

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a First Class Sheet Metal Worker
• Experience installing foundations, ventilation systems, bulkheads, and shipboard furniture
• Sheet metal fabrication shop experience
• Marine experience preferred
• Aircraft, industrial, or commercial sheet metal experience is acceptable

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to comprehend complex ventilation assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches
• Knowledge of weld symbols, material types, datum lines, and reference lines
• Ability to read fractional and decimal dimensions using a tape measure and other measuring instruments
• Ability to assemble piece parts according to specifications
• Experience using small hand tools, including electric drills, grinders, and rivet guns
• Experience operating shop equipment, including drill presses, press brakes, and shears
