Why This Role is Exciting:
The Sr. Software Engineering Manager provides technical hands-on leadership to a skilled and motivated team of software developers and UI/UX developers. Their team is embedded with and works closely with researchers and scientist, DevSecOps professionals and other team both internal and external to develop solutions solving complex problems for our Space Surveillance Network (SSN).


Key Responsibilities:
• Understanding customer needs and expectations for our Mission-Driven Autonomous Collaborative Heterogeneous Intelligent Network Architecture (MACHINA)
o MACHINA is a software system designed to serve as a general-purpose framework for decentralized autonomous situational awareness. The MACHINA program will produce a software system that implements a framework enabling resilient, decentralized, host-agnostic deployment of a collection of interacting agents that collaboratively control a collection of heterogeneous sensors in pursuit of designer-specified situational awareness.
• Implementing solutions to meet customer/program requirements based on the above understanding. This includes but is not limited to:
o Translating requirements into actionable task
o Collaborating with subject matter experts and other teams on solutions pathways
o Identifying risks associated with various technical solutions
• Collaborating with technology leaders across company, with customers and advisors to guide the design and creation of products and infrastructure while collaborating on critical technology decisions.
• Communicating challenges internally and externally to establish realistic milestones and objectives for your team.
• Mentoring and guiding your team throughout the process.


A Successful Candidate embodies the following (see details in minimum quals below):
• Technical Leadership. Willingness to get hands-on keyboard, in the code with the team to provide ground-level direction and feedback. Hands-on experience engineering across various deployment platforms is preferred.
• Full Stack Technical Experience. An understanding deploying into Cloud Services (AWS, Google Cloud or Azure), Kubernetes, Spring Boot/Java, Python, Docker, Gradle and/or Cargo. Database Development with experience with Redis, Memcache and/or ElasticSearch.
• Software Development. Hands-on experience with scripting languages like bash, Golang, or Python, Linux operating systems, Microservices software architectures and software containers (Docker). Working knowledge of DevSecOps pipelines.
• People Leadership. Interest or aptitude in mentoring and skills development
• Critical Thinker. Understand the logical connection between multiple ideas or concepts and use this to perform problem-solving and decision making.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent STEM field
• Experience leading small, collaborative teams
• Experience with Cloud Technologies
• Experience with Java
• Spring Framework and Spring Boot, including modules like spring-data
• OpenAPI and Swagger
• Experience in Kafka
• Experience working with Postgresql and SQL
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
