Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Engineering or related studies from four-year college or university; or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related construction experience. Must be able to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employees’ performance. Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activities.

Communication Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Technical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as topography and gradients, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current and valid state&#8209;issued driver's license

Other Skills and Abilities

Some on-the-job training including computer usage.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employees is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Provides information to company supervision and crafts to insure work complies with all standards and is on or under budget.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Works with and communicates with Group Manager and Area Manager on a daily basis to ensure multiple project success.

Travel is required on a regular basis and can vary from 1 night a week to 4 nights a week. Should expect to spend 40 plus nights a year traveling.

Estimates and reviews base contract work as well as extra or change order work with Group Manager, Area Manager and Superintendent.

Plans, organizes and staffs key field positions through department heads.

Establishes project policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of corporate policy.

Initiates and maintains liaison with prime customer and A/E contacts to facilitate construction activities.

Monitors/controls construction through administrative direction of on-site Superintendent and Area Manager to ensure project is built on schedule and within budget; investigates potentially serious situations and implements corrective measures.

Represents company in meetings, assists in labor negotiations/strategy meetings, etc.

Manages financial aspects of contracts, (fee payment, rental equipment, income/expenses, etc.) to project company’s’ interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with customer.

Coordinates project activities as assigned. Includes planning and coordinating departmental activities with others, circumventing/resolving problem areas, ensuring all company/project policies, procedures and standards are maintained.

Maintains liaison with client, subcontractors and engineer, if applicable, to ensure construction activities support project schedule and various client requirements.

Provides administrative direction to various staff departments under position’s responsibility. May include authorization of new hires, wage recommendations, resolution of personnel problems, etc.

Researches and resolves drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interference’s, and the like. Prepares field design change requisitions and “as built” drawings, as required.

Prepares (or directs the preparation of) and disseminates all required documentation records such as status reports, punch lists, describing work items to be done, sketches of work already completed, material requirement calculations, etc.

May provide supervision and/or technical direction, (i.e., print interpretations, design intent, construction feasibility), to engineers, crafts, and/or superintendent assigned to area of work to ensure work is completed in proper sequence.

Presents design discrepancies to engineer or engineering management for resolution-prepares documentation (field design change requests, beyond normal scope reports, etc.), as required.

Performs additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

Safety/Heavy Equipment Responsibilities

Safety &#8209; Coordinate all work as recommended by safety officer(s) including compliance with MSDS, personal protective equipment, protection/coordination of Health and Safety Plan and client/customer recommendations.

Heavy Equipment Efficiency &#8209; Assists in assuring maintenance and service is being performed in order to reduce downtime and achieve lowest possible operating cost. Optimizes equipment scheduling using best resource to optimize utilization and rental resources as economically as possible. Assists in planning of work flow and equipment mix to ensure production at lowest possible rate.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally operates heavy equipment. This exposes the employee to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions and occasionally exposes the employee to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Occasionally in the field, the noise level will be loud to extremely loud.
