The Painter Journeyman will be responsible for performing duties in one or more painting areas, at a journeyman (skilled) level, such as applying coats of paint, enamel, varnish, stain or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures of buildings and other structures.
•Smoothes surfaces, using sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool and removes old paint from surfaces, using paint remover, scraper, wire brush, or blowtorch to prepare surfaces for painting.
•Fills nail holes, cracks and joints with putty, plaster or other filler.
•Selects pre-mixed paints or mixes required portions of pigment, oil and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors.
•Paints surfaces, using brushes, spray gun or paint rollers.
•Simulates wood grain, marble, brick or tile effects.
•Applies paint with cloth, brush, sponge or fingers to create special effects.
•Erects scaffolding and ladders to perform tasks above ground level.
•Cleans and maintains work areas.
•May also hang wallpaper and fabrics.
•A minimum of one year industrial painting experience.
•High School diploma, GED and/or equivalent combinations of technical experience.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES:
•Rate information using personal judgment or measurable standards
•Work at heights while maintaining balance
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with possible exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and in all types of weather and temperature conditions.
•Manual dexterity, sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time.
•Frequent climbing stairs/ladders, bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, reaching and crouching.
•Occasional work on ladders, scaffolding or high structures.
•Visual acuity to read printed and electronic documents.
•Hearing capacity to receive, perceive and react to common construction environment auditory stimuli.
•Lifting and/or exerting of force up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds of lifting/force frequently and up to 10 pounds of lifting/force constantly to move objects.
•Frequent driving of motor vehicles.
