Reports to: Regional Safety Director
Provide a broad range of hands on support and services in all functional areas relating to Safety including: safety trainings, inspections, and investigations in alignment with the operating units business goals and objectives. Position will actively engage and partner with Field Superintendents, Field staff, Project Managers, Executive team and Human Resources to sustain a safety culture that promotes a safe work place free of incident and injury and complies with all applicable Federal, State, and Local regulatory requirements. The roles main focus is to create and sustain consistency in Safety compliance while providing new and innovative ideas to help build and promote teamwork, morale and growth.
Lead and drive Unit Safety Program
Inspect facilities, jobsites, machinery, and equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation and usage compliance.
Create Job Specific Safety Plans for all projects to include; safety compliance with OSHA, Tecta and customer policy safety, Job Hazard Analysis, and reporting requirements
Conduct regular project safety inspections/audits on all active projects and submit all required documentation
Investigate work related accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures.
Report or review findings from accident investigations, facilities/ jobsite inspections, or environmental testing.
Interview employers and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents.
Maintain & apply knowledge of current safety policies, regulations, and operational processes.
Conduct or facilitate supervisory and field level training of unit level personnel.
Administer and ensure training policy compliance at the unit level.
Conduct safety training and education programs, and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
Conduct meetings with supervisors and employees to discuss such points as the standards, cited violations, lessons learned, and potential hazards and to resolve disputes regarding occupational safety issues.
Provide new-employee health and safety orientations, and develop materials for these presentations.
Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to work hazards
Perform other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Essential)
Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
Knowledge of safety-related practices and procedures
General knowledge in the areas of Workers Compensation, OSHA, DOT, EPA
Computer skills and knowledge of office software packages including Microsoft Office Suite
Strong knowledge of safety technical subjects, including OSHA regulations
Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Desirable)
Fluent in Spanish, both verbal and written
Knowledge of business and management principles
Knowledge of accounting practices
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet program, including strong analytical abilities
Superb communication skills, including Spanish (desired), where applicable
Sound problem assessment and problem-solving skills
Sound judgment and ability to make decisions
Well organized; Adept at planning work and managing time
Extreme attention to detail and high level of accuracy
Willingness to learn
Teamwork and collaboration
Occupational Health and Safety responsible and accountable for:
Compliance with workplace policies and procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control
Active participation in activities associated with the management of workplace health and safety
Identification and reporting of health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries and property damage at the workplace
Correct utilization of appropriate personal protective equipment
Physical surroundings: Office environment with typical office machines and exposure to noise and temperature; Construction and Roofing Project sites with accompanying machinery, equipment, and materials.
Physical Effort: Extensive sitting, standing, walking, climbing ladders. Repetitive keying, typing. Occasional lifting not to exceed 50 pounds.
Domestic Travel: Occasional, for purposes of training in operating units
Extensive Hours: May have situational extended hours
