JOB SUMMARY: Mechanical Superintendent
Coordinates, plans and supervises assistant superintendents, general foremen, contractors and/or craft activities in a particular work (Discipline) area. Maintains liaison with other departments to insure all required materials, equipment and inspections support the project schedule. Coordinates plans and specifications with field design engineers, clarifying discrepancies. Incumbent may be responsible for managing small project, with home office support. Responsible for construction safety, quality, and progress on respective projects.

TYPICAL DUTIES:
• Plan and supervise Assistant Superintendents (on large projects), General Foremen, and/or craft activities includes determining method of construction, manpower levels, material quantities equipment, temporary power sources, work schedule and documenting actual hours worked.
• Coordinate assigned work with work of different crafts (other Craft Superintendents), company departments, or other contractors.
• In conjunction with senior supervision, may plan, staff, and organize field/shop positions.
• Interacts with project management, engineering, estimating, and planning to insure work complies with contract requirements, drawings, specifications, and schedule.
• Interacts with other departments (i.e., Material Control, Purchasing, Quality Control, Engineering) to ensure all require materials, equipment, inspections, etc., support craft activities and project schedule.
• Responsible for resolving construction issues (lack of productivity, safety, quality, work interfaces, rework etc.) as required.
• Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders as needed for area of supervision. Insure P&ID’s, drawings, and specifications are adhered to in construction.
• Assist in planning work schedule, determining manpower levels, materials quantities, equipment, requirements, etc. are maintained. Document and ensure corrective measures are implemented.
• Measure work performance and productivity of crafts to ensure project rules, procedures, safety requirements, etc. are maintained. Promote Stop Work authority with crews.
• Ensure that craft time cards are completed and submitted to accurately reflect hours worked. Document crew attendance.
• Reviews and measures cost and man-hour budget for installation process.
• Attend field execution meeting.
• Participate in Project Handover Meeting.
• Participate in Customer Kickoff Meeting (if applicable)
• Participate in Project Pre-Planning Meeting.
• Attend Safety and Quality Kick-Off Meetings.
• Conduct/attend weekly progress team meetings.
• Lead/attend weekly and monthly Safety Meetings.
• Assist in obtaining personnel through Human Resources/Recruiting or network (as necessary).
• Assist in preparing work packages.
• Verify control points as a baseline.
• Develop work plans for crews. Identify and develop alternate plans for schedule interference.
• Receive incorporated material. Establish receiving and inspection process.
• May conduct site specific safety task training.
• Conduct site audits / inspections.
• Assess work completion. Create punch lists.
• Assists in creating Requests for Information (RFI’s).
• Communicate requisition process. Track missing items or requisition items.
• Facilitate subcontractor orientation and training
• Feedback for employee evaluations.
• Capture field updates (quantities, hours, delays, change orders)
• May assist in developing cost estimates for contracts.
• Perform administrative activities to include completion of daily logs and reports and advising on
personnel actions.
• Advise senior level supervision and Construction/Project management of potential problems,
work interference, schedule difficulties, etc. Assist in circumventing/resolving such problems as
required.
• Coordinate resources/site logistics for mobilization. Plan laydown areas. Mobilize labor,
equipment, materials, and subcontractors.
• Lead/assist in demobilization
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A four-year construction, engineering or related degree or equivalent combinations of technical
training and/or related experience. A minimum of ten years supervisory experience in similar
construction/manufacturing technology, methods, equipment, tools and work procedures is
required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES:
• Advanced understanding of scheduling, cost control and ability to control and supervise large
groups are essential.
• Proficiency with standard office software.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with possible exposure to noise, dust,
fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and
all types of weather and temperature conditions. Occasional or frequent air travel with overnight
stays.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Manual dexterity, sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time;
• Frequent climbing stairs / ladders, bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and crouching;
• Occasional work on ladders, scaffolding, or high structures;
• Visual acuity to read printed and electronic documents;
• Hearing capacity to receive, perceive, and react to common construction environment auditory stimuli;
• Lifting and / or exerting of force up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds of lifting / force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of lifting / force constantly to move objects; and
• Frequent driving of motor vehicles.
