External Job Description: HII Mechanical is hiring an experienced Welding Engineer to support our Project Controls & Engineering Department.
Position will evaluate new welding equipment, implement new welding processes, and develop welding sequences to minimize weld distortion.
Candidate must have the ability to read customer drawings and specifications to determine welding procedures needed, develop qualification plans for Weld Procedure Specifications, and welder performance qualifications based on customer requirements. Position will develop man-hour estimates and schedules to perform these qualifications.
Candidate must be able to trouble shoot production welding problems and perform metallurgical and failure analysis of weldments. Candidate must also have solid weld engineering experience to support work with commercial codes (ex. ASME III, VIII, IX or AWS D1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 9.1, 17.1) with application to fabrication and welding requirements for piping, pressure vessels, machinery, and structural. Candidate must have working knowledge of the SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, GMAW, and SAW processes.
Position requires candidate to have strong knowledge of NDE processes and how they apply to base metal and welds.
Develops, analyzes, researches, and designs welding techniques, procedures, and applications. Uses engineering principles to manipulate materials for fabrication and assembly processes. Prepares technical documentation in order to implement waterfront welding processes including specifications, analyses, standards, and restrictions. Creates new or modifies current welding methods, techniques, and procedures in order to substantiate welding theories.
Basic Qualifications: 9 Years with Bachelors in Science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD
Candidate must have the ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written).
Position requires candidate to have the ability to obtain/maintain Confidential clearance, although not required to start.
May be required to physically access tight, low or high spaces, involving climbing, kneeling, stooping, standing, etc. Depending on area assigned, the job may involve exposure to extreme weather/temperature and other environmental conditions encountered in manufacturing, including noise, fumes, chemicals, moving and energized machines and systems, etc.
Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of Post Weld Heat Treatment processes (oven, heat blankets, vibratory) is preferred.
