Responsibilities
The key functions of the Safety Consultant are to support specific project needs and ensure that best practices are implemented, safety compliance requirements are met, and an improved safety culture and performance is delivered.

Assess current safety program, safety management system, and culture at Hawaii location (power plant, drilling crews totaling about 55 people) and provide recommended steps for improvement.
Document safe operating procedures (SOPs) and conduct risk assessments for pre-job tasks and execution of work.
Establish basic safety programs such as lock-out, tag-out (LOTO); confined space entry (CSE); fall protection and/or review effectiveness of such programs.
Review incident data, investigations, and corrective actions and assess effectiveness of program.
Assess training program for all levels and roles at the site (compliance, leadership, etc.).
Establish pre-job safety meeting quality standards; provide training on how to conduct.
Provide mentorship to, and assess effectiveness of, current onsite safety staff (1 person).
Establish or recommend key performance indicators (KPIs) for safe operational performance.
Review leadership accountabilities with regard to safety performance (VP to supervisor level).
Document opportunities for employee engagement in safety program development.
Work with corporate safety counterparts to leverage existing resources, inform of issues, report progress.
Create a road map and action plan for successful safety culture enhancement.
Qualifications
Minimum of 7 years of experience in oil and gas; drilling operations or construction
Thorough knowledge of safety program development and safety management systems
Experience with establishing and/or transforming safety culture in an organization
CSP and/or SMS certifications are required
