[Construction Manager] Line and Grade Area Manager

Baker Concrete Construction, Inc., one of the nation's largest concrete contractors is searching for an Area Line and Grade Manager. The Area Line and Grade Manger is accountable for all layout and activities and ensures safe and accurate work. The position serves as the intermediary between several Party Chiefs and the L&G Manager. Has a good understanding of SQP goals and collaborates with project leadership to identify improvement ideas. Contributes to effective project management through daily observations and communication. Interfaces daily with the client and project management to resolve tolerance conflicts and field constructability issues. Contributes to safety on the project by perpetuating the IIF culture.
Responsible for Field Engineering Planning and Startup Process: Responsible for facilitating and developing action items from project line and grade setup meeting. Participates along with the project manager and superintendent in preconstruction planning activates i.e.: startup meetings, pour break developments, schedule / budget development, BIM planning, etc. Responsible for pre-construction coordination of design, information along with BIM department to ensure issues are identified and resolved prior to construction. Develops L&G staffing plan that adheres to project budget and requirements under the direction of the L&G Manager and communicates this to project team. Ensures all field engineering closeout documents are prepared and submitted per project requirements.
Accountable for the installation of On-Site Layout: Ensures assigned projects are appropriately staffed. Responsible for accurately maintaining site dimensions and controls. Responsible for accrete layout of building location, structures and dimensions throughout the project. Ensures procedures and coordinates with the client to define primary survey points and transfer building control on the site. Schedules control verification from the Party Chief to ensure accuracy horizontally / vertically throughout the project. Enforces implementation of BIM to field procedure to adequately provide layout methods. Enforces implementation of as-built BIM Model process and ensures their accuracy and completion. Ensures as-built data is collected post pour and reviewed for accuracy within project tolerances. Immediately flag all potential issues for project team to address. Makes necessary recommendations to L&G Manager to upgrade personnel and procedures as the project progresses.
Directs and Oversees the Work of Direct Reports on Assigned Projects: Supervises, trains, evaluates, and develops direct reports. Provides guidance, direction, coaching, and support to direct reports to maximize individual and overall department performance. Responsible for holding timely performance appraisals and progress reviews. Assists direct reports in developing short and long-term goals that align with department and Company mission and strategy. Ensures direct reports receive appropriate training that aligns with career development plans; training may be remedial, "maintenance", or geared to promotion. Takes appropriate action to develop direct reports including, but not limited to, preparing and monitoring career development plans, promotions, demotions, lateral moves, corrective action, and progressive discipline. Recommends that direct reports receive timely and appropriate compensation. Ensures compliance with employment laws, labor laws, and related Company policies; may be responsible for conducting training or coordinating workshops related to such compliance.
Accountable for Layout Which Adheres to Quality Control Requirements: Reviews construction documents for accuracy, deviations, and conflicts and coordinates clarification requests accordingly with Project Team and the project BIM Operator. Collaborates with superintendent, foremen and other trades to resolve constructability conflicts. Interfaces with Formwork Engineering department to provide layout for formwork shop drawings. Reviews field notes and documentation generated by survey or layout crews. Reviews and understands construction drawings and identifies discrepancies. Responsible for communication of changes and maintenance of BIM Model, technical drawings, as-builts, clarification logs, etc. Knows and applies general construction tolerances in the application of work including the determination of the most stringent tolerance and its use.
Accountable for Field Engineering Project Closeout: Ensures all field engineering closeout documents are prepared and submitted per project requirements.
Work Environment: Work is a combination of office and field environments involving various types of conditions encountered on the construction site. Work involves exposure to outside weather conditions.
