The HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC involves being a team member in the operations of the Construction division at McCarthy Improvement. This position will operate, repair and maintain paving machinery and equipment to prepare and apply paving materials for constructing roads, parking lots, runways and various other services. The heavy equipment mechanic will communicate with his assigned job superintendent to ensure all repairs are completed in a timely manner.
Additional responsibilities include:
Operates machinery including but not limited to, truck cranes and other construction machinery.
Inspects, cleans, repairs and maintains machinery and equipment in safe and good working condition.
Uses various hand tools, power tools and welding and cutting equipment, as appropriate.
Notifies supervisor of any unsafe or malfunctioning equipment or machinery requiring additional or outside assistance for maintenance or repair, or the purchase of parts.
Maintains a safe work environment and complies with all safety rules and regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will have:
High school diploma, or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years experience and/or training as an operator of construction machinery or equipment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver's license.
May be required to possess a valid CDL if required for operation of the vehicle.
Must have the ability to purchase and bring your own hand tools and power tools required to perform the duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to, impact wrenches, wrench sets and sockets.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operator manuals, parts manuals and maintenance instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to perform basic math and calculate units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals and percentages.
Ability to understand all units of measure common to construction machinery and equipment.
The geographic work location will be based in Greenville, SC, and it is required that the successful candidate have the ability to travel regularly, up to 250 miles from the local office, including frequent nights, weekends and overnight stays (depending on work demands).
