Geotemps is looking for a full-time Payroll Specialist for a client whose corporate office is in Reno, NV. The clients business is centered in the mining industry, with site locations throughout the western US, making candidates with multi-state payroll experience preferred.
Summary: The Payroll Specialist will have duties pertaining to all aspects of payroll services for employees company-wide, including the areas of: multi state payroll, tax and insurance deductions, changes to employee pay rates and deductions; recordkeeping and documentation; filings with government agencies; and maintaining the efficient operation of the payroll department.
Duties and Responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
Receiving, auditing and processing timecards.
Computing and processing wage and salary payments and related withholdings.
Calculating and processing payroll adjustments for changes to salary deductions, retroactive pay, and other changes as necessary.
Auditing payroll processing reports for errors.
Reviewing computer printouts of standard payroll transactions and submitting documentation for corrections if necessary.
Organizing and maintaining a variety of payroll related files, documents, and procedures.
Maintaining spreadsheets, preparing reports, and creating routine correspondence as necessary.
Compiling, preparing and maintaining effective payroll reports and statistics.
Preparing withholding, social security, and other federal, multi-state and local tax reports.
Organizing and reviewing forms associated with federal, state, and local taxes. Producing reports for payment of those taxes.
Maintaining and updating confidential employee payroll records.
Responding to requests from employees, supervisors and external agencies on matters relating to payroll.
Assisting in maintaining compliance with applicable state, local, and federal rules, regulations, laws and procedures.
Performing any other related duties as required by the position or as assigned by the Payroll Manager and/or Controller.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software (Quickbooks); Database software; Payroll systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
Other Skills and Abilities: Individual should be able to 10-key, as well as operate standard office equipment including calculators, shredders, fax machines, photocopiers, scanners, printers and/or telephones.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, or reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
