Talascend is seeking a Distribution Engineer for a long-term, contract career opportunity with our client in Detroit, MI.
In collaboration with various project teams, the Distribution Engineer creates world-class new designs and alterations for redevelopment of overhead and underground power distribution projects (2.4kV to 34.5kV). The successful candidate will work with various project teams throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical distribution plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs. Candidates must be U.S. Citizens and based within a commuting distance of our client’s Detroit office.
The Distribution Engineer will be responsible for;
Developing and preparing distribution voltage packages for both overhead and underground projects, including distribution equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and new feeder design.
Creating design sketches, cost estimates, bill of materials, and other required deliverables.
Performing distribution calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading calculations.
Applying NESC standards and utility standards, guides, specifications, and procedures.
Researching and providing project-related data as required by the project managers.
Performing field inspections for overhead and underground electric facilities on public and private utility systems.
Preparing and distributing project communications regarding vegetation management, third-party attachments, right-of-way, and outage planning.
Creating client presentations, reports, and visualizations to demonstrate technical results and project status.
Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Three years of relevant engineering experience, A/E consulting experience preferred.
Must have knowledge of electrical distribution power flow; as well as experience easements, right-of-way, and permitting for distribution projects.
Proficiency in distribution design software, GIS (to aid design) and MS Office Suite.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Successful completion of FE or EIT preferred.
Ability to travel up to 30%.
U.S. Citizenship is required.
