Title: Supervisor Substation Design

Position Type: Direct Hire

Location: Fort Mill SC (SW metro Charlotte NC)

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Status: Exempt

Job Summary: 

The Substation Design Supervisor will work on utility substation, battery energy storage systems, and solar collector substation projects with a leading utility services company that is experiencing extreme growth in the South Carolina area.  The Substation Design Supervisor will lead project work, managing project schedules and budgets as well as provide technical competency and direction on complex problems, delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality design projects.  The Substation Design Supervisor is an opportunity to grow a career while supporting proposal development, project cost estimating and business development efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership and communication skills commensurate with leading a team of technical professionals in Design and Drafting
Ability to create, reinforce, and improve teams in the execution of Engineering designs for clients and the delivery of projects with high quality, on time and within budget
Create substation physical design project drawings from existing standards based on client standards and industry best practices
Create/Improve quality control measures to ensure design and drafting meet standards
Mentor designers and drafters
Collaborate, communicate, and liaise effectively with other design disciplines, colleagues, construction contractors, consultants, materials suppliers, and clients.

Job Requirements:

Demonstrated Leadership experience or abilities
Visit sites, advise on physical design issues, and modify design to solve issues during construction.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting at workstation for extended periods of time viewing monitors
Working on keyboard and using computer mouse.

Education / Experience:

Engineering degree is a plus
Must have 10+ years of experience in CAD Design
Ability to supervise 4-8 direct reports
Proven AutoCAD and/or MicroStation 2D and 3D skills
Certifications with AutoCAD and or MicroStation are beneficial
Proficient in interpreting the physical design for utility stations through 500kV, including substation arrangements, sections, and elevations, foundation and grading plans, lighting plans and details, fence plans and details, grounding plans and details, rigid bus designs, strain bus designs, below grade designs to include duct banks and cable trenches, single phase transformer banks, bus and equipment support structures
Thorough understanding of the installation of high voltage transformers, group operated disconnect switches, breakers, PTs, CCVTs, line turners, surge arresters, and other equipment within the substation and be able to create/draft sections, details, and overviews
Understanding of grounding designs
Experience checking designs for accuracy, appearance, and adherence to customer standards
Ability to manage budgets and project schedules
Advanced understanding of substation design to include equipment arrangements, equipment specifics, and substation construction as it applies to utility substation and transmission line equipment facilities.
