Position Description: Inspectors will provide inspection services for transportation projects primarily sponsored and funded by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). Projects are located in Atlanta and Augusta areas.
Inspects asphalt and concrete for acceptable materials and mix, and pavement for proper spreading, rolling, depth, alignment, and compaction.
Inspects roadway and structures for conformance to plans, and specifications; structural materials and members; placement of culverts; structural operations such as foundation excavation; placement of piling, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete and backfill; traffic control and erosion control devices.
Reads and interprets construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
Ensures that items, materials, and procedures comply with the latest state DOT Standards and Specifications.
Performs complex calculations and computations, data entry of construction and inspection status, as well as contract documentation duties, which may include field measurements of pay items as well as other required documentation.
Performs other duties, as requested.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
High School Diploma or GED.
2+ years of experience construction inspection for transportation projects.
Must have considerable knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway and bridge construction.
Must have considerable knowledge of mathematical functions including geometry and trigonometry.
Must have skills in the use of office equipment such as calculators and computers, including use of email, internet, Microsoft Office programs.
Must have the ability to read, interpret, and explain such things as construction plans, contract provisions, and specifications.
Must have the ability to take notes and prepare or review reports, good communicative skills, and the ability to instruct other employees in proper work methods.
Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law and have a clean driving record.
Must have the ability to remain flexible and work shifts and over weekends.
Must be able to travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections.
Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds.
GADOT certifications such as GSWEE Level 1A, WECS, Concrete (ACI) and other DOT certifications or the ability to get is most preferred.
OSHA certifications are preferred.
Local candidates are preferred.
