Title: Construction Project Engineer

Position Type: Contract

Location: Salt Lake, UT

Reports to: Project Manager

Status: Non-Exempt

Job Summary: 

PIC Group has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Construction Project Engineer supporting rebuild of copper smelting furnaces for a brownfield copper mining project in the Salt Lake, UT area, which is one of the largest open-pit copper mines in the world for mining, smelting, and copper refining. The Construction Project Engineer will report to the Project Manager and work closely with Construction Managers, Superintendents, Project Managers, and General Manager to support furnace rebuilding operations. The Construction Project Engineer will also assist the Project Manager with project controls, including but not limited to daily management, budgeting, scheduling, and planning to ensure the project is constructed according to the project plans. Some duties may require outdoor activities including but not limited to working in a heavy industrial environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform project planning and support as directed by Project and General Managers.
Assist and support Project Manager with schedule, equipment, and resources to support an on-time and on-budget project.
Communicate effectively with staff and clients to ensure the goals of the project are achieved.
Assist with contracting and managing subcontractors.
Create long and short-term plans that include setting measurable targets to adhere to deadlines.
Make effective decisions when presented with multiple options to progress the project.
Communicate with management to keep the project aligned with the overall business objectives.
Develop and implement time management and employee strategies aligned to achieve the project objectives.
Develop, coach, and support the project team members on all operational activities to achieve project goals.
Create strong relationships with the execution team to be able to challenge and coach them while providing services to core standards.
Work with project team to ensure compliance with company policies, governmental rules/regulations, and regulatory standards.
Manage and define project scope, goals, and deliverables.
Assist on project material and equipment procurement.
Assist with operational budgets for projects to achieve the business objectives.
Ensure proper interdisciplinary coordination to facilitate the resolution of technical problems on projects.
Manage and create RFI’s and submittals for assigned projects.
Monitor and track financials for projects to achieve and record objectives of the projects.
Organize field data and utilize engineering data to compile various documentation and reports.

Job Requirements:

Strong knowledge of construction methods, practices, and systems to assist General Manager and Project Managers as needed.
Knowledge and understanding of corporate policies and programs related to HR, Safety, Quality, and Project Controls.
Ability to manage change to achieve project and business objectives.
Skilled in developing schedules, work plans and resource allocation for projects.
Skilled in preparing and controlling operational budgets for projects to achieve the business objectives
Ability to organize field data and utilize engineering data to compile various documentation and reports
Excellent communication, both written and verbal.
High level of computer literacy
Excellent problem-solving abilities.
Effective interpersonal and collaborative skills in a matrix and multi-cultural environment.
Ability to work in extreme heat and cold, respond quickly to sounds, see and respond to dangerous situations

Physical Requirements:

Duties require walking, standing for extended periods of time, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders and stairs, and lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to wear a full-face respirator at all times while in the plant production area.
Must be able to use protective equipment correctly (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection, etc.) most of the day.

Education / Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management
Minimum of 3 years direct experience in heavy industrial/construction project engineering in industries such as mining, steel, lead, aluminum, oil production, etc.
