Solar Field Engineer � Utility-Scale Construction

Location: Primarily field-based in Virginia (75%+ travel)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Industry: Renewable Energy / Utility-Scale Solar
Per Diem: yes (7 days per week, GSA guidelines)

Position Overview:
A leading energy provider is seeking Solar Field Engineers on a contract basis to support the execution of large-scale solar construction projects. This role is a key part of the project delivery team, responsible for managing technical aspects of construction, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring successful execution on-site. Projects range from 1MW to 150+ MW.

Responsibilities:

Support daily construction oversight in collaboration with Construction Project Managers

Manage technical components of utility-scale solar projects from groundbreaking to commissioning

Coordinate across internal departments including Operations, Environmental, Real Estate, Safety, and Supply Chain

Serve as a liaison with external stakeholders, including EPC contractors, permitting agencies, and Owner�s Engineers

Monitor construction progress for quality, contract compliance, and environmental permitting adherence

Lead and participate in site walks, commissioning, punch list reviews, and turnover processes

Maintain project documentation including RFI/NCR logs and weekly reporting

Review contractor deliverables, performance test results, and as-built documentation

Provide technical input on change orders and key project milestones

Collaborate with peer engineers to maintain consistency across the project portfolio

Qualifications:

Bachelor�s degree in Engineering (ABET-accredited program required)

5�6+ years of engineering experience

Prior experience as a solar field engineer on utility-scale solar construction projects

Strong understanding of renewable energy systems, power distribution, and construction operations

Proficiency with MS Office, SAP, Adobe, Bluebeam, and project scheduling software

Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Ability to work independently and within multi-disciplinary teams

Willingness to travel extensively (75%+)

Preferred:

Knowledge of Virginia E&S/stormwater regulations

Experience with construction scheduling and cost management
