Job Summary
The Fire Safety Engineer is responsible for managing and maintaining all aspects of fire protection systems at the refinery, including fixed systems such as firewater pumps, piping distribution networks, deluge systems, and mobile/portable fire equipment. This position leads inspection, testing, and maintenance programs to ensure performance and regulatory compliance, while also contributing technical expertise to fire safety planning, incident readiness, and capital project execution.
This role plays a critical role in protecting employees, contractors, the community, and the environment through proactive engineering and oversight of life safety and fire suppression systems.

Key Responsibilities
•Ensure compliance with fire protection codes and standards (OSHA, NFPA, etc.) and manage the performance of fire protection infrastructure and equipment.
•Lead inspection, testing, and maintenance activities for firewater systems and suppression equipment.
•Monitor and analyze firewater system pressure and pump operations, recommending and overseeing improvements as needed.
•Approve new fire protection installations and upgrades, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and site requirements.
•Serve as the subject matter expert for capital project support, safety design reviews, and loss control evaluations.
•Respond to site emergency events as part of the Emergency Response Team (Level 1–3 incidents).
•Plan and manage small safety capital/TS&E projects from scope through execution, including development of AFEs, engineering documentation, and execution plans.
•Develop long-term maintenance and investment strategies for fire systems based on inspection reports, reliability data, and risk analysis.
•Provide mentorship and training to junior engineers and cross-functional colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications
•B.S. in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical field.
•Minimum 10 years of job-related engineering experience required.
•Strong knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and other relevant life safety codes and standards.
•Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
•Strong analytical and communication skills.
•Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.

•Experience in firewater system design, testing, and maintenance within an industrial or refinery setting.
•Hands-on involvement with deluge systems, detection equipment, and suppression infrastructure.
•Familiarity with performance-based fire risk assessments and risk mitigation strategies.
•Project management experience with safety system upgrades and capital initiatives.
•Background in emergency response planning and coordination.
