Key Project Requirements:
•    5–10 years of hands-on experience in field engineering, testing, or commissioning of medium-voltage (208V–34.5kV) electrical systems.
•    Proven expertise with switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, and generators.
•    Strong understanding of NFPA 70E, OSHA electrical safety, and industry standards (IEEE/NESC).
•    Demonstrated experience developing and executing energization and commissioning plans for complex electrical systems.

Job Summary:
NAES is seeking an experienced Electrical Field Engineer to support commissioning and start-up activities for medium-voltage electrical systems at a first-of-a-kind energy storage project in South Dakota. The Electrical Field Engineer will lead field execution of installation, testing, and energization of electrical equipment—including switchgear, transformers, and generators—ensuring all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with design and regulatory standards. This role will collaborate closely with internal engineering, safety, and operations teams to validate system performance and support successful project turnover.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•    Lead on-site installation, testing, and commissioning of medium-voltage electrical equipment and systems.
•    Perform acceptance testing, including insulation resistance, contact resistance, relay testing, and control verification.
•    Develop, document, and execute energization and startup procedures in coordination with engineering and safety teams.
•    Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during commissioning and startup phases.
•    Ensure compliance with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and all applicable electrical safety procedures.
•    Interface with subcontractors, vendors, and customer representatives to coordinate commissioning activities.
•    Maintain accurate documentation of test results, as-built redlines, and field modifications.
•    Support punch-list resolution, turnover packages, and continuous improvement of commissioning processes.

Job Requirements:
•    Strong working knowledge of medium-voltage distribution, protective relaying, and grounding systems.
•    Familiarity with PLC/SCADA or control system integration preferred.
•    Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office and commissioning/test documentation software.
•    Ability to work independently in a field environment and manage multiple priorities.

Education / Experience:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline preferred.
•    Minimum 5 years of field experience commissioning or testing MV electrical systems; renewable or industrial energy experience a plus.
•    OSHA 30 and NFPA 70E certifications required (or ability to obtain).
•    NETA Level II/III certification preferred.
•    Familiarity with IEEE C57, ANSI C37, and IEC 61850 commissioning and test standards.
