Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Chemical Engineer opportunity at the Catholic University of America’s Vitreous State Laboratory in Washington, DC.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Chemical Engineer to support research, development, design, and implementation of chemical products and systems. This role involves applying principles of chemistry, physics, mathematics, and engineering to solve technical problems, improve product quality, ensure safety compliance, and support operational excellence across projects.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:
· Apply chemical engineering principles to develop, test, and improve products and materials.
· Support design, analysis, and optimization of chemical systems and equipment.
· Conduct laboratory experiments, pilot studies, and technical evaluations.
· Analyze data and prepare technical reports, specifications, and documentation.
· Assist in scaling laboratory developments to production-level applications.
· Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
· Support troubleshooting efforts related to chemical systems or product performance.
· Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, R&D, and project management teams.
· Maintain accurate technical records and documentation.
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
· 5 to 20 years of chemical engineering experience.
· Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and reaction engineering.
· Proficiency in data analysis and engineering software tools.
· Knowledge of safety regulations and industry standards.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
· Familiarity with CAD or engineering design software.
· Experience with laboratory instrumentation and testing methods.
· Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification.

Compensation:
Pay is commensurate with education and experience and may range between $100K to $187K annually.
