Job Description
The Civil Superintendent oversees all civil construction activities on-site and works closely between the civil and quality teams to ensure that subcontractor work meets specifications, schedule, safety, and quality standards. This role focuses on mass grading, trenching, foundations, and related civil scopes, and is ideal for someone with a strong civil background who is interested in civil and quality-focused responsibilities. The Civil Superintendent drives field productivity, resolves conflicts, enforces site policies, and supports a smooth transition to subsequent construction phases.
Responsibilities
* Oversee all on-site civil construction activities, including site grading, clearing, basin excavation, and access road installation.
* Manage trenching, backfilling, and compaction operations to ensure they meet project specifications and quality standards.
* Supervise the installation of foundations for inverter pads, tracker posts, and racking systems.
* Ensure implementation and maintenance of SWPPP and erosion control measures, perimeter fencing, stormwater management, and landscape buffer installation.
* Work closely behind subcontractors to verify that all civil work complies with design specifications, quality expectations, and project requirements.
* Oversee subcontractors to ensure quality, schedule, and safety standards are consistently met.
* Review civil drawings, identify conflicts, and collaborate with construction management and engineering teams to resolve constructability issues promptly without jeopardizing schedule or quality.
* Ensure proper layout, survey control, and as-built verification of all civil work.
* Conduct daily site walks to monitor work progress, environmental compliance, safety compliance, and QA/QC standards.
* Enforce site-specific quality and safety procedures in collaboration with QA/QC and Safety teams.
* Hold subcontractors accountable for productivity and adherence to site policies and procedures.
* Inspect elements of the project to assess quality of installation and identify any deficiencies.
* Leverage strong knowledge of civil, mechanical, and electrical construction to support coordination across trades.
* Identify, analyze, and resolve field issues through effective problem-solving and conflict management.
* Promote construction safety awareness and ensure that safe work practices are followed at all times.
* Use construction management software and tools to track progress, document work, and support reporting requirements.
* Support industrial relations on-site by recognizing and helping to resolve potential labor issues.
* Communicate effectively with subcontractors, engineers, and the broader project team to keep everyone aligned on goals, expectations, and progress.
Essential Skills
* Minimum of 3+ years of experience as a Civil Superintendent or Solar Civil Superintendent.
* Strong background in civil construction, with emphasis on mass grading and trenching work.
* Ability to oversee and coordinate earthwork, grading, trenching, and foundation installation activities.
* Experience supervising subcontractors and enforcing quality, schedule, and safety standards.
* Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, and contract exhibits.
* Strong knowledge of various areas of construction, including civil, mechanical, and electrical.
* Construction management and supervision experience in site construction and earthworks.
* Attention to detail and ability to assess quality installations and inspect project elements.
* Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize, schedule, and multi-task.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software such as Procore.
* Ability to operate a computer and laptop and learn new software tools as needed.
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
* Disciplined, self-motivated work style with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to influence others to adhere to company policies, procedures, and instructions.
* Construction safety awareness and comprehension.
* Problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify, analyze, research, evaluate, and resolve issues.
* Conflict management skills and the ability to address and resolve on-site disputes.
* Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to lead and motivate a diverse group of individuals.
* OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
* QA/QC experience in a construction environment is a plus.
* Experience with electrical construction and electrical components is beneficial.
* Experience working with general contractors and managing subcontractor performance.
* Familiarity with renewables or solar civil work is advantageous.
* Analytical mindset with a high level of attention to detail.
* Visual thinker with strong problem-solving and implementation skills.
* Industrial relations knowledge for recognizing and resolving potential labor issues.
* Bi-lingual (Spanish) communication skills are a plus, but not required.

Work Environment
This role is based on a large 100 MW construction site where you will spend most of your time working outdoors in varying weather conditions, with additional time in a site trailer that serves as a field office. You will work closely with field teams, subcontractors, and project staff in a fast-paced, production-driven environment focused on civil and quality control work. The position typically follows a Monday through Saturday schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday work is common and required. You can expect approximately 10 to 25 hours of overtime per week. A daily per diem is provided for each day worked, and mileage is reimbursed when using your own vehicle on site. The work environment emphasizes safety, adherence to procedures, and effective use of technology such as Microsoft Office Suite and Procore to manage documentation and communication.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
