Offshore Journeyman Ironworker / Rigger (non-Union)
Project Support Dominion's Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind projects in Virginia/ Coastal Virginia. Position will be on rotation on the offshore vessel. Work schedules will be rotational and involving helicopter or vessel travel to remote sites. Mandatory 5-day GWO training and rigging certification is required.
Work Location: Norfolk VA
ST Pay Rate: $50.00/hr
OT Pay Rate is $75.00/hr.
*Double time is paid on holidays only (not Sundays)
Work Schedule: 3 week rotations. Average work week expected to be 84 hours/week.
Duration: Initially One Year w/ annual extensions expected
Position Details / Scope of Work:
The Ironworker is responsible for: Erecting and assembling structural steel frameworks for onshore and offshore electrical substations, switching stations, transmission infrastructure, and any associated onshore facilities that connect the offshore wind farm to the grid; Rigging, hoisting, positioning, aligning, bolting, and welding steel beams, columns, girders, and other components according to blueprints and safety specifications; Working with reinforcing steel (rebar) for concrete foundations or structures supporting electrical equipment or onshore tie-ins; Ensuring precise plumbing, alignment, and secure connections of steel elements, often at heights or in industrial settings; and Adhering to strict safety protocols, including fall protection, given the project's emphasis on safety in construction zones.
Experience Requirements:
• Journeyman Ironworker experience from a recognized program (e.g., NCCER, union apprenticeship, or state/provincial licensing).
• Experience in a post-apprenticeship position, preferably in industrial/offshore settings; oil & gas, construction, manufacturing, or onshore energy.
• Proficiency in rigging, crane signaling, welding, burning/torch work, and precise alignment/bolting of steel components.
• Familiarity with OSHA safety standards, fall protection, and personal protective equipment (PPE) like hard hats, steel-toed boots, harnesses, and safety glasses.
Certification Requirements:
• Certified Journeyman Ironworker
• Scaffolding and Rigging certifications
• Welding Certifications
• GWO (Global Wind Organization) Certified (Training Available) to include:
BOSIET/FOET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training)
HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training)
Offshore medical certificate (OEUK or equivalent)
Chester Step
Physical Requirements:
• Strong physical condition, including agility, balance, stamina, and the ability to work at heights, lift heavy materials, and perform in demanding outdoor/industrial environments.
• Working conditions may be physically demanding and located in hazardous environments with exposure to heights, noise, weather, and confined spaces, and work shifts may be both in remote locations and long (12+ hours/day).
• The individual hired for this role must be able to complete all training and medical certificates, which may include BMI calculation, weight limits, blood pressure testing, lung function, general physical examination w/ assessments of climbing stairs, lifting up to 50 lb., emergency escape, exoskeletal health and mobility, as well as vision and hearing tests, and aerobic fitness testing like the Chester step test.
• Additionally, conditions on the vessel may cause motion sickness and require Dramamine, patches or other motion sickness medication. While the vessel medic will have some supplies on hand, it's recommended that the individual bring their own supply.
