Group Steel Erectors is seeking an experienced and motivated Construction Surveyor (Instrument Man) with a background in structural steel and construction layout operations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with robotic total stations, construction drawings, elevation transfer, and steel erection support activities.

Experience

• 2 to 5 years of construction surveying experience

• Structural steel experience preferred

Required Knowledge & Skills

• Experience operating Robotic Total Stations (RTS)

• Familiarity with sight levels and elevation transfer procedures

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and layout information

• Understanding of construction control and layout practices

• Ability to work safely and efficiently in active construction environments

Primary Responsibilities

• Set up and operate Robotic Total Stations from established control

• Establish building gridlines from provided data collector files

• Verify anchor bolt locations and orientations

• Transfer and establish elevations from known benchmarks

• Check plumbness of structural steel columns

• Assist field crews with plumbing and alignment of columns

• Perform as-built surveys of structural steel locations and elevations

• Maintain accurate field data and layout documentation

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working around steel erection operations

• Experience with Trimble Robotic Total Stations (RTS)

• Experience using Trimble Siteworks software and data collectors

• Familiarity with construction survey data collectors and layout software

• Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
