Job Overview
Job Title: Electrical Field Engineer
Project Type: Major Power Plant or Substation Projects / GE Gas Turbine Installations
Duration: 12-18 months
Schedule: 5 x 8's, will go to 5 x 10's
💰 Compensation & Logistics
Mobilization: Standard
Per diem: $135.00/day x 7 days
🛠️ Technical Execution & Responsibilities
Work Planning & Tracking: Create Work Packages and Lift Drawings for electrical crews; break down cable schedules into daily pull lists and look-aheads to verify on-site commodity availability.
Cable Schedule Management: Track every cable pull to ensure correct footage cuts, cable types, and routing (tray/conduit) match the design.
Design & Issue Resolution: Identify field design conflicts, draft and submit Requests for Information (RFIs) to design firms, and create red-line sketches to route conduit around obstacles.
Technical Specialty: Apply extensive industrial electrical expertise to support large-scale infrastructure, specifically focusing on GE gas turbine power generation packages.
Schematic & Drawing Interpretation: Read and interpret Electrical One-Line Diagrams, Three-Line Diagrams, and Wiring Schematics.
🛡️ Safety, Quality & Documentation
Quality Control: Walk down installations prior to duct bank concrete pours to verify rebar grounding, conduit spacing, and hold-downs.
Testing Oversight: Coordinate with testing subcontractors for Megger, Hi-Pot, and VLF cable testing; review and file test results immediately.
Code Compliance: Ensure installations meet National Electrical Code (NEC/NFPA 70) requirements regarding support spacing, grounding bonding, and cable separation.
Progress & As-Builts: Measure and report weekly installed quantities to support Earned Value progress payments; maintain a "live" set of red-line drawings for final accurate As-Builts.
Physical Demands: Ability to work indoors/outdoors in noisy, hot, cold, or dirty environments; requires physical activity including climbing ladders, working at elevations, and lifting 50 pounds.
📋 Requirements
Experience: 10 years of related experience with electrical installations, featuring extensive GE gas turbine power plant experience.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Construction Management is preferred (or an equivalent combination of education and field experience).
Technical Skills: Proficiency with AutoCAD or Bluebeam Revu for markups/sketches; advanced Excel skills for heavy data and cable list management.
Certifications: Valid jurisdictional driver license; must be legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
