Position Summary
We are seeking up to five qualified Mechanical Engineers or technically experienced professionals to support a large-scale mechanical equipment inventory project at store locations across the United States. Under limited supervision, the Mechanical Inventory Assessment Consultant is responsible for performing systematic inventory and visual inspection of mechanical building systems and equipment, collecting and documenting data on-site, and delivering clean, accurate records.
This is a contract role running from May 2026 through August 2026. This position is exclusively sourced through Footbridge. Candidates from any geographic area will be considered.
All travel expenses are reimbursed, including airfare, hotel, rental car (if applicable), and a daily per diem for meals.
Compensation
All travel-related expenses are fully reimbursed.
Schedule & Travel
This position requires a high volume of travel (estimated 60–70%). The work cadence is as follows:
2 weeks on-site at assigned Costco store locations conducting mechanical equipment inventory
1 week remote/home office to clean up, organize, and submit collected data
Repeat cadence for the duration of the project through August 2025
Store locations are primarily in the Central, Midwest, and East regions of the United States.
Duties & Responsibilities
Perform systematic inventory and visual inspection of mechanical building systems and equipment (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and related systems) at Costco store locations.
Document findings accurately using designated software applications and data collection tools.
Interact professionally with Costco facilities management and store staff to gather necessary information and access.
Review and utilize client-provided documentation during the inspection process, including drawings, maintenance logs, and equipment records.
Assess equipment condition, approximate age, and replacement value where applicable; note deficiencies and recommended corrective actions.
Write clear narrative and technical descriptions of mechanical systems, equipment conditions, and remediation steps as needed.
Compile, organize, and clean collected data during designated home-office weeks and submit within required timelines.
Work independently in the field and collaboratively as part of a distributed team.
Essential Job Functions
Ability to walk and inspect large facilities and campuses up to 8 hours a day.
Ability to climb ladders and stairs to access and assess building systems (including rooftop systems).
Willingness and ability to travel approximately 60-70%, primarily within the U.S., with occasional international travel.
Ability to read equipment nameplates, drawings, and technical documentation.
Attention to detail and high accuracy in data collection.
Proficiency with spreadsheets, CMMS/EAM systems, and inventory tools.
Strong observational, analytical, and reporting skills.
Effective written and verbal communication.
Ability to identify various types of HVAC And refrigeration systems in a retail and warehouse setting
Use of PPE in accordance with site safety requirements
