Wet Utility Pipe Crew – Central Indiana

Long-Term Work | Full-Time | Overtime Available

TalentLogistiX is hiring experienced Wet Utility Pipe Crew professionals for long-term projects throughout Central Indiana. Projects are generally located within 100 miles of the Carmel-area shop and include residential developments, commercial sites, public infrastructure, right-of-way work, and deep interceptor installations.

We are seeking complete four-person crews and qualified individuals for the following positions:

  • Pipe Foreman/Crew Leader
  • Pipelayer
  • Top Man/Pipe Laborer
  • Excavator Operator

This is a hands-on crew environment. Roles may flex throughout the day, and every team member is expected to contribute wherever needed to maintain safe, efficient production.

Location: Central Indiana – Carmel-area shop
Travel: Projects generally within a 100-mile radius
Schedule: Full-time with overtime and occasional Saturdays
Project Type: Sanitary sewer, water main, storm sewer, services, and structures
Start Date: Based on project availability

Scope of Work

  • Install sanitary sewer mains, laterals, and services
  • Install water mains, taps, valves, hydrants, fittings, and services
  • Install storm sewer systems and drainage pipe
  • Set manholes, catch basins, inlets, and related structures
  • Perform bedding, haunching, backfilling, and compaction
  • Install and maintain trench boxes, shields, and excavation-protection systems
  • Support dewatering, testing, tie-ins, inspections, and restoration
  • Work safely around live utilities, traffic, groundwater, and other trades

Position Responsibilities

Pipe Foreman/Crew Leader

  • Plan daily production, materials, equipment, and safety requirements
  • Maintain responsibility for line, grade, elevations, structures, and quality
  • Direct the operator and ground crew throughout the installation
  • Coordinate deliveries, inspections, tie-ins, quantities, and as-built information
  • Stop work and adjust the plan when site conditions become unsafe

Pipelayer

  • Bed, set, join, and inspect each section of pipe
  • Set and operate pipe lasers while confirming slope and alignment
  • Build manhole inverts and connect pipe to structures
  • Ensure all joints and connections meet project specifications before backfilling

Top Man/Pipe Laborer

  • Stage pipe, fittings, stone, tools, and trench-protection equipment
  • Assist with laser readings, grade checks, pipe preparation, and communication
  • Cut pipe, prepare gaskets and restraints, and keep the trench supplied
  • Maintain safe spoil placement and an organized work area

Excavator Operator

  • Excavate trenches to the required line, width, depth, and grade
  • Safely set trench boxes, pipe, and structures
  • Coordinate equipment movements with the ground crew
  • Backfill in specified lifts while protecting installed utilities
  • Maintain safe swing, travel, and loading areas

Qualifications

  • Previous wet utility, underground construction, or excavation experience preferred
  • Experience installing sanitary sewer, water main, or storm sewer systems
  • Ability to read plans, cut sheets, stakes, and laser-grade information
  • Knowledge of trench safety and underground utility procedures
  • Ability to lift more than 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work
  • Comfortable working outdoors in heat, cold, rain, mud, and changing conditions
  • Reliable transportation to the Carmel-area shop or designated jobsite
  • Valid driver’s license preferred
  • Willingness to work overtime and occasional Saturdays
  • Ability to pass required pre-employment screening

Preferred Credentials

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
  • Excavation Competent Person training
  • Confined-space awareness
  • CDL
  • Excavator or loader experience
  • HDPE fusion experience
  • Familiarity with Indiana 811 and traffic-control procedures
