Title: I&C Commissioning Specialist

Location: Lansing, MI

JOB SUMMARY

The Commissioning Instrument and Controls (I&C) Engineer coordinates the instrumentation check-out and control verification activities including loop check verification, calibration of equipment, systems, and facilities within the plant.

The Commissioning Instrument and Controls (I&C) Engineer reports to and supports the Instrument Analyzer Superintendent to develop and maintain a coordinated approach towards project planning and project management.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs, directs, and instructs instrumentation and control commissioning activities during the startup phase of a project. 
Develops instrumentation design standards for the plant.  Designs instrumentation systems for plant expansions, including the development of field and control room instrumentation specifications.
Coordinates the configuration of digital control systems (DCS) installations.  Performs software configurations for digital controllers, PLCs, and DCS.
Proactively solves problems and leads the preventive maintenance program for field instrumentation.
Performs Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) to improve production reliability.
Assists as needed during operational upsets or plant turnarounds.
Participates in commissioning of new equipment installations/modifications involving field instrumentation.
Writes and/or reviews standard operating and/or maintenance procedures involving field instrumentation.
Works closely with department members and operations experts.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate should be able to read and understand corporate programs, policies, procedures and instructions specific to the O&M Agreement.  
Qualifications must include the following:

Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from 4-year college or university; or 5 to 7 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must possess the ability to instruct, direct, and manage personnel in the pre-commissioning, startup, and initial facility operational phase of a project.
Prior experience in maintaining instrumentation in an industrial plant.
Excellent interpersonal, leadership, communication skills, including team facilitation.
Highly self-motivated and entrepreneurial approach to work.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Siemens T3K DCS a plus.
