Title: Senior Solar Field Technician
Position Type: Direct Hire
Location: Midland, TX
Reports to: Field Operations Lead
Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
PIC Group has an immediate need for an experienced Senior Solar Field Technician to perform periodic inspections of company and client owned solar assets. The Senior Solar Field Technician reports directly to the Field Operations Lead, and will participate in solar inspections, operations, and maintenance activities, and assist with troubleshooting and outage response at multiple solar sites. The Senior Field Technician will effectively communicate planned and unplanned outages with clients through phone calls, text messages, and email to ensure completion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform monthly and annual inspections of the solar farms.
• Perform regular routine and preventative maintenance activities, and contract for third-party maintenance services.
• Monitor solar production and optimize production.
• Troubleshoot solar farm issues such as DC ground faults, switchgear faults, component failures and inverter issues.
• Lead and coordinated all warranty claims and maintenance work with manufacturers, vendors, and customers.
• Support energization of the solar farm.
• Verify no open items are missed during the commissioning phase.
• Support the handoff between the construction team and O&M team
• Perform MV/LV switching.
• Provide client notice and updates of outages and maintenance work by phone, text, and email, in a timely manner.
• Maintain a log of solar farm outages, including time, cause, duration, and response times.
• Create and maintain a safety conscious work environment by leading and influencing others to follow PPM safety protocols and safe work practices
Job Requirements:
• Must be able to work in the field on remote job sites, in and around energized medium voltage, and low voltage electrical infrastructure.
• Must be able to travel regularly as required for asset management inspections and projects.
• Strong communications skills, and be customer focused, to appropriately identify and respond to clients’ business needs in a professional and courteous manner.
• Must be a problem solver, with creative and innovative thinking.
• Must have experience or ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
• Must have the ability to work collaboratively with third-party contractors.
• Ability to follow prescribed safety protocols and safe work practices.
• Ability to use appropriate test equipment, instruments, and tools required for inspection and maintenance activities.
• Demonstrate a strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and contribute to a fast-paced team.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to sit, stand, bend (forward and backward) consistently and for potentially extended periods of time (up to 12 hours per day).
• Sufficient depth perception, close, distance, color, and peripheral vision to effectively discharge the responsibilities of the role (corrective lenses permitted)
• Capable of daily extensive walking.
Education / Experience:
• HS Diploma required.
• Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school OR 3+ years of solar field experience
