Position Description
The Electrical Engineer will oversee multidisciplinary efforts by the Engineer of Record (EOR) to develop electrical and controls engineering design packages. The role includes managing complex EPC contracts and addressing the technical aspects of power generation, power plant systems, and retrofits. Responsibilities range from designing power distribution systems to developing construction specifications, reviewing equipment, and providing technical oversight during all project phases.
Responsibilities
Engineering & Design Management
Lead planning and coordination of all phases of electrical engineering projects, from concept to detailed design.
Oversee EOR engineering processes, ensuring designs align with Kindle Energy�s standards, EPC contract requirements, and project schedules.
Define and evaluate technically feasible designs, coordinate external vendor inputs, and ensure alignment with project cost and schedule constraints.
Perform detailed technical diligence during project development through implementation and commissioning, addressing risks and mitigation strategies.
Technical Leadership
Support proposals by assessing detailed electrical requirements, preparing technical evaluations, and optimizing costs.
Guide the preparation of control systems such as Distributed Control Systems (DCS) or Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and instrumentation design deliverables.
Manage the layout of control system components, logic configuration, graphic user interfaces, and system Input/Output (I/O) lists.
Coordinate vendor I/O data and ensure proper partitioning of control systems hardware.
Execution & Implementation
Administer the preparation of electrical and instrumentation documentation necessary for procurement and installation phases.
Manage all aspects of electrical design execution, from preparation and review of technical specifications to ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
Supervise vendor contract agreements, including technical negotiations and procurement processes.
Act as primary technical liaison to address and resolve design-related issues with customers and external stakeholders.
Perform root cause analyses and resolve equipment issues during project execution while maintaining schedules and budgets.
Desired Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor�s degree in Electrical Engineering (an advanced degree is a plus).
Professional Engineer (PE) License or EIT certification preferred
10+ years of experience in medium and low voltage power distribution design/installation within power plants or industrial settings.
7+ years of experience in high-voltage transmission equipment design/installation and controls/instrumentation systems.
Expertise with widely used control system platforms such as Rockwell, Siemens, or Schneider is preferred.
Comprehensive knowledge of grounding systems, as well as familiarity with industry codes and standards (NEC, ANSI, NFPA, IEEE, OSHA).
Proficiency with tools like eTAP or SKM for performing electrical studies, including short-circuit analysis, coordination, and arc flash studies.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD or Smart Plant Electrical software.
Experience with renewable energy or solar projects is an advantage.
