Sodium Radioactive Waste SME
Project: Advanced Reactor construction
Work Location: Lenexa, KS OR Oak Ridge, TN
Rate: Not Defined / need Candidate's requested rate
Per diem: $178.00/day (7 days per week)
Mob / Demob: $500.00 each ($1,000 total)
Hours: Full Time (40 hrs / wk)
Duration: Long Term - individual may choose the option of going direct after 6 months (not required)
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide expert technical guidance on sodium radioactive waste design systems for advanced reactor projects
• Develop waste management strategies and design solutions for fuel recycling operations
• Conduct technical assessments of radiation waste streams, characterization, and disposal pathways
• Support design reviews and engineering evaluations for waste handling, storage, and processing systems
• Interface with DOE representatives, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders on waste management technical matters
• Evaluate materials performance and metallurgical considerations in radioactive waste environments
• Develop technical specifications and procedures for waste management operations
Required Qualifications:
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or 10+ years of experience in radioactive waste
• Advanced degree (MS/PhD) preferred
Experience & Experience
• Minimum 10 years of experience in nuclear fuel cycle operations, waste management, or related nuclear field
• Direct experience with fuel recycling processes and nuclear fuel cycle technology
• Strong background in radiation physics, radiological safety, and dose assessment
• Metallurgy expertise with understanding of material behavior in radiation environments
• Experience working with DOE facilities, national laboratories, or advanced reactor programs
• Knowledge of radioactive waste classification, characterization, and regulatory requirements
Technical Competencies
• Deep understanding of nuclear waste streams including high-level, transuranic, and low-level waste
• Experience with advanced reactor concepts and fuel cycle technologies
• Proficiency in radiological modeling and waste characterization methods
Physical Requirements: Must be capable of climbing, walking, kneeling, bending, and lifting as part of daily job responsibilities. Ability to lift a minimum of 35 - 60 lbs.
