Johnson Service Group has an immediate opening for a contract to hire Mechanical Designer. The basic function of the Mechanical Designer is to manage and direct the design tasks required for assigned projects. The Mechanical Designer is to ensure that all projects are processed through the engineering group, meeting all scheduled design submittal dates, maintaining quality, accuracy, as well as sound design practices. The Mechanical Designer is to monitor the projectís design hours and ensure that the projects stay within the allocated hours for each task.
The Mechanical Designer reports directly to the Design Manager. No other job position currently reports to the Mechanical Designer. The Mechanical Designer is assigned a project by the Design Manager and is delegated sufficient authority to accomplish the goals and objectives that are under his/her control.
B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited four-year university plus CAD training or Vocational Degree in Mechanical Design/CAD
3+ years Mechanical Design
Must have the ability to develop detailed mechanical drawings for use in fabrication and construction. Advanced technical communication skills are required.
Must have the ability to utilize resources to streamline the design process.
Must be proficient with computers (specifically AutoCAD and Inventor design software) as well as modern mobile communication methods.
Must possess strong math skills, and have the ability to read reports, charts, and graphs. A strong understanding of mechanical design and fabrication is required. Must have a basic understanding of ANSI, ASME, AWS, and other third-party organizations related to design.
Must have the ability to make correct decisions based on design requirements for a project.
Responsible for the complete design and drawing output for each assigned project with the Project Engineer, Sales Engineer
Project Manager maintains up to date knowledge of the client CAD system software as well as any advancements in the CAD industry.
Aides in developing and coordinating design standards with other designers and engineers.
Attends weekly production meetings to discuss current project status with upper management when required.
Answers for design hour budget deviations on projects.
Must maintain a design reference library for standard design tools, components and resources.
Must report estimated time to complete design projects in weekly meetings when requested.
Must maintain updated design reference guides, steel books, vendor data, design tables, welding symbol reference charts, etc.
Communicate task assignment discrepancies to the Design Manager immediately upon discovery.
Develop accurate and complete mechanical drawings as required by each project task assigned.
Ensure that the Mechanical Design Group is using solid design judgment when developing mechanical drawings.
Track design hours used on each project task
