System One is looking for an experienced mechanical design engineer with a machining background for a 3-6 month contract in Newport News, VA that could become temp to perm. 

The candidate should be well versed in machined piece part design, fabrication and assembly of those machined piece parts to structurally complete an Extra Large Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (XLUUV) . Candidate will be responsible for design/engineering evaluation of provided drawings, troubleshooting design and fabrication errors, providing descriptive problem resolutions, provide lifting and handling plans, assist with concept build strategies, and other related tasks to production for an XLUUV. Candidate must also have excellent mechanical aptitude, with an ability to visit ship, shop or vendor as needed in order to resolve technical issues. Candidate will need to be a self-starter, with basic deck plate experience, able to understand complex, system level parameters. Strong analytical ability is required, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience is beneficial. Candidate must be able to efficiently work as part of a cross-functional team comprised of Engineering, Sourcing, Planning, Trades, Vendor, Navy and other external customers.
