Talascend is currently seeking a Building Automation Systems Technician for a contract-to-hire opportunity with our client in Pennington, New Jersey.

Overview

The Building Automation Systems (BAS) Technician is responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, operating, and optimizing building automation systems to ensure efficient and reliable facility performance. This role supports commercial, industrial, and laboratory environments by maintaining HVAC, plumbing, and electrical control systems while ensuring occupant comfort, operational reliability, and energy efficiency. The technician will leverage technical expertise to analyze system performance, resolve faults, implement corrective actions, and support continuous improvement initiatives for building systems.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor and operate Building Automation Systems (BAS) to ensure efficient and reliable system functionality.
Identify, respond to, and troubleshoot system alarms, faults, and operational irregularities.
Analyze BAS data to diagnose root causes and implement corrective actions to restore optimal system performance.
Adjust HVAC controls, system setpoints, and automation parameters to maintain comfortable building conditions and maximize energy efficiency.
Run system trends, generate reports, and analyze BAS performance data to support maintenance planning and system optimization initiatives.
Coordinate with maintenance technicians, engineers, and facility management teams to resolve complex system issues and implement improvements.
Document maintenance activities, troubleshooting procedures, repairs, and system modifications accurately.
Support preventive maintenance programs for BAS, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
Assist with BAS upgrades, integrations, and migration projects involving Niagara platforms and Siemens hardware.
Ensure proper communication and integration between building systems using BACnet protocols.
Contribute to continuous improvement and energy management initiatives for facility operations.

Required Qualifications

Niagara 4 (N4) Certification required.
Hands-on experience working with Building Automation Systems (BAS) in commercial, industrial, or laboratory environments.
Experience troubleshooting and operating BAS systems.
Strong technical knowledge of industrial HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems related to building automation.
Experience working with BACnet communication protocols and system integrations.
Ability to run system trends and generate detailed BAS reports.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience working in laboratory environments with specialized HVAC and control requirements.
Familiarity with Siemens building automation hardware and control devices.
Experience with multiple Niagara platform versions and migration projects.
Advanced reporting, trending, and analytics experience using BAS tools.
Knowledge of energy management strategies and building optimization techniques.
