Talascend is currently seeking an Electrical & Automation Technician for a direct hire opportunity with our client located in Salem, OH.

This role will work a hybrid schedule with Mondays and Fridays remote and Tuesday-Thursday onsite in Salem.

Overview:

The Electrical & Automation Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the design, implementation, commissioning, and service of industrial control and automation systems. Working closely with Controls Engineers, Process Engineers, and Project Teams, this position is responsible for developing and revising electrical drawings, supporting PLC/HMI systems, interpreting P&IDs, maintaining project documentation, and providing hands-on assistance during testing, startup, and field service activities. The role offers a combination of office-based engineering support and customer-facing field work, requiring occasional domestic and international travel.

Responsibilities:

Support the engineering and execution teams for the development and design of control systems and subsystems for galvanizing/annealing lines, roller hearth or heat treat furnaces.
Collaborate with engineering teams on control system implementation and project execution.
Develop documentation under the coordination of Controls and Process Engineers.
Support P&ID development and be able to read and interpret P&ID drawings.
Maintain and update documentation including motor lists, component lists, I/O lists, logic drawings, functional descriptions, and drawing redlines.
Update and revise drawings from redlines and field feedback.
Draw and modify electrical schematics and layouts in AutoCAD Electrical.
Verify electrical schematics, panel layouts, and installation documentation according to company standards and applicable electrical codes.
Assist with PLC and HMI configuration, connection, troubleshooting, software uploads/downloads, and logic/HMI screen editing.
Provide hands-on commissioning support for electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
Support in-house testing, field commissioning, troubleshooting, and light field service activities.
Perform site studies, attend customer meetings, and provide remote and on-site support.
Travel to customer sites as required; a valid passport or ability to obtain one is required.

Requirements:

Understanding of basic control processes including closed-loop control, cascade control, and PV switching control.
PLC/HMI awareness with ability to connect to systems, troubleshoot, and edit PLC/HMI software. Additional expertise is welcomed.
Knowledge of Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC/HMI platforms.
Knowledge of industrial networks including EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, and Modbus.
Proficiency using AutoCAD Electrical for electrical-focused drafting and revisions.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, and P&IDs.
Familiarity with NFPA 79, UL508A, NEC, and industrial electrical practices.
Travel: Up to 25% or as required.
Passport required or ability to obtain one.
Experience: Minimum 3-5 years.
Education: Associate Degree (AS) in Engineering or equivalent experience.
Light physical effort required.
Must be able to meet Customer Safety requirements if onsite.
Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, and move about the facility.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to analyze complex problems and implement practical, reliable solutions.
Capable of managing multiple projects and priorities under tight timelines.
Technical documentation experience.
