Job Description
This onsite Maintenance Engineer role supports autonomous material handling equipment at a major automotive assembly plant in Flint, with occasional work at an additional nearby facility. You will work closely with plant employees and supervisors to keep Autonomous Fork Trucks (AFTs) operating reliably, performing mechanical and electrical repairs, documenting daily activities, and learning proprietary automation software. This position is highly client-facing and combines hands-on technical work with training and support responsibilities.
Responsibilities
* Work onsite daily at the automotive assembly plant in Flint, with occasional assignments at the Bay City facility as needed.
* Collaborate closely with plant employees and supervisors to ensure Autonomous Fork Trucks (AFTs) operate safely and reliably.
* Perform mechanical repairs on AFTs and related manufacturing equipment to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
* Perform electrical troubleshooting and repairs on AFTs and associated systems, following appropriate safety and technical standards.
* Support and maintain the automation and control systems used on AFTs, including robotics and related technologies.
* Learn and effectively use the clients proprietary software for automation and programming of AFTs.
* Use Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office tools to report daily work, issues, and status updates to stakeholders.
* Document maintenance activities, repairs, and system issues clearly and accurately for ongoing tracking and continuous improvement.
* Train plant employees on how to maintain AFTs, recognize issues, and perform basic corrective actions to support smooth operations.
* Provide professional, client-facing service and support, ensuring clear communication and a high level of responsiveness.
* Identify recurring equipment issues and escalate or recommend improvements to enhance reliability and performance.
* Follow all onsite safety procedures and guidelines while working in and around manufacturing equipment and autonomous vehicles.
Essential Skills
* At least 3 years of recent experience in a client-facing service technician role.
* At least 3 years of recent experience using Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office, and Outlook for reporting and communication.
* At least 3 years of recent experience in CNC programming or PLC programming or robotics programming, or AV programming.
* At least 3 years of recent experience performing mechanical repairs on manufacturing equipment or machinery.
* At least 3 years of recent experience performing electrical repairs on manufacturing equipment or machinery.
* Hands-on experience with robotics, electrical systems, and automation in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
* Ability to learn and work with proprietary automation and programming software for autonomous equipment.
* Strong troubleshooting skills for both mechanical and electrical issues on complex machinery.
* Clear and professional communication skills for daily reporting and interaction with onsite employees and supervisors.
* Comfort working in a highly client-facing role, providing service and support directly to plant personnel.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
* Experience working with autonomous vehicles or autonomous material handling equipment is beneficial.
* Experince in industrial automation, robotics, or controls engineering is advantageous.
* Familiarity with automotive manufacturing environments and production processes is a plus.
* Experience training operators or maintenance staff on equipment use and basic troubleshooting is helpful.
* Ability to adapt quickly to new software tools and technologies related to automation and AV systems.
* Strong organizational skills for managing daily tasks, documentation, and communication across multiple stakeholders.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Flint, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $38.00/hr.
