Talascend is currently seeking an Operating Engineer for a contract to hire opportunity with our client in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Overview

This role involves overseeing the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex building systems in high-end hospitality and educational facilities. The position requires broad maintenance experience across various systems, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, fire safety, and more.

Responsibilities

Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs to mechanical, plumbing, structural, fire, life safety, and control systems to keep facility and building systems up to standards
Maintain responsibility for facility services, preventative maintenance, purchasing and inventory control, contracted maintenance, general maintenance, and technical proficiency
Clean, inspect, calibrate, and change parts on HVAC systems and associated equipment to maintain optimum performance levels
Record readings and make adjustments to ensure proper operation of equipment across all building systems
Monitor the quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors, ensuring standards are met
Perform periodic checks of tool and instrument inventory to maintain readiness for maintenance activities
Comply with departmental policy for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials while maintaining a clean and safe workplace

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent
2-4 years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial building systems
Ability to analyze the operation of various commercial or industrial mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, determine the cause of problems, and take corrective action
Working knowledge of computer applications including Word and Excel
Physical ability to bend, sit, kneel, squat, stand, reach, and lay as required to access equipment components for extended periods
Ability to work exposed to heat, sunlight, rain, cold, and during daylight and night-time hours as needed

Preferred Qualifications

EPA 608 Universal Certification
Two years of trades schooling in electrical system design, refrigeration, and HVAC

The shift for this position is Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM with potential for on-call.
