Job Description
As a Structural Steel Inspector, you will travel to various job sites, perform site-specific safety training, inspect structures and equipment for deficiencies, and document your findings with detailed reports and digital photos. You will collaborate closely with our engineering team to assess the severity of these findings and help maintain safety and compliance in diverse industrial environments.
Responsibilities
* Travel to job sites and complete site-specific safety training to understand facility hazards.
* Complete daily work permits and required documentation.
* Inspect structures and equipment for deficiencies; document findings and take digital photos.
* Utilize basic hand tools in the field.
* Collaborate with the engineering team to assess the severity of findings.
* Read and interpret drawings to identify and label the location of observed deficiencies.
* Review inspection specifications relevant to the structures being evaluated.
* Create field sketches to illustrate the locations of structures or equipment within the facility.
Essential Skills
* 2+ years of experience as a millwright or facility maintenance mechanic.
* Willingness to travel and be away from home for up to a week at a time.
* Ability to learn and be taught the inspector role.
* Comfortable working at heights up to 150 feet using man lifts.
* Ability to be respirator fit.
* Proficient in report writing and AutoCAD.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
* NDT experience or certification.
* Manlift Certification.
* Overhead Crane inspection experience.
* OSHA10 certification.

Work Environment
Work in various industrial settings, including manufacturing sites, automotive factories, dirty steel mills, aerospace, and nuclear facilities. You will typically work in teams of 2-3 people, with a focus on facilities in general.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hammond, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $45.00/hr.
