PPS is seeking experienced Traveling Journeyman Electricians to join our Controls & Automation field team.
This position is responsible for industrial electrical installation, high-voltage work, controls installation, equipment connections, troubleshooting, startup, and commissioning on industrial automation and process projects.
Our electricians work closely with Field Operations, Controls Engineers, Controls Programmers, Electrical Design Engineers, and Project Managers to install and commission complete electrical and automation systems.
This is a traveling position supporting local and national projects, with opportunities to work on industrial facilities, automated process systems, manufacturing environments, and complex electrical and controls projects.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical & High-Voltage Installation
Install, terminate, and troubleshoot industrial electrical systems.
Perform high-voltage and medium-voltage electrical work as required by project scope and qualifications.
Install and terminate electrical distribution equipment, switchgear, transformers, disconnects, motors, and other electrical equipment.
Install conduit, cable tray, wire, and cable systems.
Perform equipment wiring and terminations according to drawings and specifications.
Install and connect motors, VFDs, starters, instrumentation, valves, sensors, and other field devices.
Perform panel-to-field wiring and equipment connections.
Perform electrical testing and verification.
Follow required high-voltage safety, lockout/tagout, and energized-work procedures.

Controls & Automation
Install and support PLC, HMI/SCADA, VFD, instrumentation, and control systems.
Read and interpret electrical schematics, one-lines, panel drawings, wiring diagrams, and control drawings.
Install control panels and field devices.
Perform point-to-point wiring and I/O verification.
Work with Controls Engineers and Programmers during startup and commissioning.
Troubleshoot electrical and controls-related issues.
Support integration of automation systems with existing equipment.

Startup & Commissioning
Participate in equipment startup and commissioning.
Perform point-to-point checks and I/O verification.
Verify motor rotation, instrumentation, control signals, and equipment operation.
Troubleshoot electrical and field wiring issues.
Support Controls Programmers during PLC and automation commissioning.
Assist with system testing and production startup.
Document field changes and installation issues.

Safety & Compliance
Safety is a critical responsibility of this position.
Follow all company and customer safety requirements.
Comply with applicable OSHA, NEC, NFPA, and electrical safety standards.
Follow high-voltage and medium-voltage safety procedures.
Follow lockout/tagout and electrical safe-work practices.
Use appropriate PPE and arc-flash protection.
Follow energized electrical work procedures when authorized.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Stop work and communicate immediately when unsafe conditions are identified.

Field Communication
Work closely with the Field Operations Manager and Project Manager.
Communicate field conditions, material requirements, schedule issues, and technical concerns.
Coordinate work with other trades, contractors, and customer personnel.
Communicate installation issues to Engineering and Controls teams.
Maintain professional relationships with customers and jobsite personnel.

Required Qualifications
Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent qualification required.
5+ years of industrial electrical experience preferred.
Demonstrated experience with industrial electrical systems.
High-voltage/medium-voltage experience strongly preferred.
Ability to read electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, control drawings, and equipment documentation.
Strong understanding of electrical installation and troubleshooting.
Experience with conduit, cable tray, wiring, terminations, and electrical equipment.
Experience with motors, VFDs, instrumentation, and control systems.
Strong understanding of NEC and electrical safety requirements.
Experience with lockout/tagout and electrical safe-work practices.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Valid driver's license.
Ability and willingness to travel extensively for national projects.

Transformers.
Motor control centers (MCCs).
Industrial motors and drives.
Arc-flash safety and electrical testing.
Allen-Bradley/Rockwell systems.
Siemens systems.
PLC and HMI/SCADA systems.
VFD installation and troubleshooting.
Industrial instrumentation.
Control panel installation.
Automated piping and process systems.
Industrial commissioning and startup.
Manufacturing or industrial facilities.

Travel Requirements
This is a traveling position supporting projects throughout the United States.
Travel may include:
Local and regional projects.
Multi-week national projects.
Extended jobsite assignments.
Overtime and occasional weekends are based on project requirements.
