Responsibilities and duties include:
• Oversight of laboratory operations,
• Train laboratory users,
• Maintain chemical inventory,
• Procuring and maintaining lab consumables and PPE supplies,
• Ensure good housekeeping practices,
• Assure proper postings are in place,
• Enforce compliance with BNL requirements for access and use,
• Act as point of contact for changes/modifications to lab,
• Request service and maintenance of lab equipment,
• Assure safe lab practices are followed,
• Assure proper approvals are in place for start of experiments,
• Improve chemical procedures where appropriate,
• Assist with proper disposal of wastes,

Must complete and maintain BNL training requirements consistent with the requirements for the assigned space. Reports to Group Leader or Laboratory Space Manager.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Bachelor's degree in a closely related field of basic or applied science.
&#61607; Minimum of (2-3) years’ experience working in a chemistry lab environment and basic chemical knowledge.
• Experience with the safe handling of flammable, toxic, and/or pyrophoric chemicals
• Experienced in safely handling life science laboratory techniques
• Strong communication and writing skills
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of scientists, engineers, and technicians.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
&#61607; A master’s degree is preferred.
&#61607; Minimum of three (3) years progressively responsible related work experience including supporting scientific research programs following established methods and standards for investigation and experimentation.
&#61607; Minimum of (2) years’ experience working in physical chemistry, organic chemistry and biochemistry.
&#61607; Experience with the operation of fume hood, glassware cleaning requirements, centrifuges, cold sample storage freezers and working with Liquid Nitrogen.
&#61607; Familiarity with BNL Safety, ES&H, and Emergency Management standards, experience with government procurement policies and procedures
&#61607; Experience working with BNL site services
&#61607; Proficiency with appropriate software tools (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint)
