Mechanical Engineer / Test Specs Writer - 3+ months position in Oregon

POSITION SUMMARY:
Prepare test specifications to establish the test and hardware configuration, environmental conditions, and data acquisition requirements for testing to characterize the performance of control elements intended for use as part of a RXM Handling Machine.
The person in this position will apply technical knowledge, codes and standards, industry expertise, and interpersonal communications skills to develop test specifications that establish levels of performance for underwater machine vision systems, and the use of inclinometers used in a dynamic operating situation. This equipment is being considered for incorporation of an integrated control system utilized to control underwater material handling equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs system engineering on material handling, inspection and control systems.
Prepares, checks, and reviews engineering reports, system descriptions and specifications, drawings, calculations, and other design documents.
Works on complex tasks in multiple and diverse.
Develops and maintains engineering standards and criteria.
Supports and manages systems engineering and process design planning.
Plans, organizes, and performs complex assignments in a team
Supports and manages procurement of services and equipment.
Provides mentoring and technical direction to less experienced engineers.
Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
• Education: BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Nuclear Engineering from a four year accredited (ABET preferred) college or university. A PE license in Mechanical, Electrical, or Nuclear Engineering is desirable.
• Experience: 5-8 years of relevant professional Demonstrated experience required in:
Implementing engineering design processes to design major mechanical equipment and Planning, preparing, and checking mechanical design documents for major mechanical equipment and systems.
Experience with machine vision systems, robotics and/or automated equipment development is desired. A strong electro-mechanical design background desired.
• Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
• Overall Job Knowledge and Performance: In-depth understanding of engineering concepts, principles
• Skills: Strong technical writing, good communication, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills. Exceptional organization skills and ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases.
• Quality Assurance: Demonstrated understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1 preferred.
