The work will be performed as part of the Radiation Protection Services Group Health Physics Analysis Laboratory (HPAL) Team performing tasks associated with analysis of samples for the presence of radioactive materials. The HPAL Team is responsible for non-destructive measurements of samples collected in support of the LANL Radiation Protection Program. HPAL technicians are responsible for: performing radiological analyses; reviewing and reporting analytical results; calibration of instrumentation; performance and evaluation of quality control measurements; maintenance of radiological instrumentation; and interacting with HPAL customers. Basic knowledge of the properties of radiation and radiation measurements is required. Experience with the operation of laboratory radiation detection instrumentation (i.e., gas-flow proportional counters, liquid scintillation counters, etc.) is desirable. Specific duties will be assigned based on the qualifications and training of the selected candidate. Additional training and qualification will be provided as needed. Upon qualification, the selected candidate may be required to participate in on-call rotations and be able to respond during non-working hours as necessary. Position requires High School diploma or equivalent, and basic math and computer skills.
