Exempt position. Manages the safety and health programs for field projects (as assigned).
• Assists in management and support of functional area of industrial hygiene and occupational safety projects.
• Establishes and maintains contact with Corporate Health and Safety Manager, the Client Safety Advocate, subcontractor health and safety representatives, managers and supervisors as required to fulfill health and safety commitments on assigned projects.
• Advises and supports Project Management personnel and the Client Safety Advocate relative to industrial hygiene issues.
• Anticipates and provides direction to project personnel on potential industrial hygiene and occupational safety problem areas and evaluates, recommends and implements solutions or corrective actions.
• Implementation and administration of occupational safety and health policies and integrated Safety Management Systems (ISMS).
• Review and provides comments and recommendations to Program and Project Managers, relative to ES&H policies, programs, and procedures, reports, and performance changes affecting workplace safety, so that objectives and goal of zero accident performance can be met.
• Maintains management level relationships with other participating entities responsible for ES&H in connection with the Program.
• Develops site hazard assessments, job/activity hazard analysis and performs daily, weekly and/or monthly safety inspections.
• Provides safety related training for site personnel as needed and as qualified to perform.
• Conducts incident reporting and accident/incident investigations as necessary.
• Identifies training requirements for all project personnel and visitors who access the site. Verifies and confirms training records are accurate and complete.
• Supports identification of medical surveillance and monitoring programs based on site hazards and training requirements.
• Maintains a daily project specific Health and Safety Log Book.
• Supports the development and verification of equipment and materials procured for project activities.
• Supports or performs receipt inspections on safety and quality items.
• Review and approval of project work documents (e.g., Demolition Work Plans, Work Packages, Work Instructions).
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Minimum of 10 years of applied construction health and safety experience including industrial hygiene monitoring, surveillance and reporting.
• At least one of the following certifications: CHST, ASP, CSP or CIH.
• Current OSHA 30 Hour Construction Safety (completion of OSHA course 500 or 510 is also acceptable).
• Current First Aid & CPR qualified (Red Cross or equivalent).
• Current 40 hour HAZWOPER.
• Broad knowledge of applicable government health and safety regulations and standards including Publication 3000.
• Thorough knowledge of industrial hygiene and other health and safety requirements of the Program, as defined by the scope of work and associated performance requirements, including those related to ISMS.
• Ability to review, evaluate and develop appropriate policies and procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to monitor work activities, evaluate health and safety conditions and facilitate corrective actions.
• Ability to obtain Competent Person Qualifications as necessary to support required field activities.
• Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) with field, Program management, and client representatives is essential.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to organize and coordinate activities of others are necessary.
Office environment approximately 60% of day, other 40% working in facility where there is potential for exposure to radiation, noise, dust and hot and cold temperatures. Climbing, walking and lifting will be normal daily requirements.
